Thanks, I've been pondering on this for a while.

Why isn't WiMAX bigger here? Garth, any input from your side? (Sorry, I don't mean to derail your thread)

Pleasure.
Your not derailing. Just thought I could share something.

Wimax is kinda dead to the world . It's never been fully adopted by big operators and has mostly been replaced by LTE afaik .

Just sent in all the paperwork.

Is the 2 week turn around time fairly accurate before a LOS test is done? Pretty confident it will come back positive as I can see the whole valley below me, and that is completely covered in their map.

Read through about 60% of the 58 pages here. Some very good feedback. I have applied for the 5Mbps line, but if the service is as good as what has been stated here I will be suggesting the estate I am in rather use this. Yes I am being the test subject :)

Some questions regarding the equipment and ownership thereof; the Standard Terms and Conditions aren’t too clear hereon.

* When opting to go for a month to month package and paying the initial R4300 installation fee, does the equipment become the property of the subscriber?
* For a 1 year contract (with the R800 installation fee) does ownership of the equipment transfer to the subscriber upon completion of the contract period?
* Finally, should a one year contract (as an example) be cancelled; will the ‘remaining’ cost of installation be recovered from the (now ex-) subscriber and equipment ownership transferred?

Sorry for all the questions, but with the quote acceptance (i.e. LoS test request) not being completely obligation free, I need to weigh up options and understand things before signing on.

I've been playing League of Legends since 11 this morning, using an average of 60kbps yet I've been throttled back to 2mb?..

My paperwork was submitted last Monday, and the LoS tests are being done tomorrow, so pretty close to 2 weeks.

I believe Wimax had big hype surrounding it but was a failed technology. Wimax has been replaced by LTE but it remains to be seen if LTE is the be all and end all for our bandwidth needs.

Our links surpass the performance of LTE because we make use of such high gain antennas.

Thanks for the input. :)

What exactly do your antennas look like? Do you also have your own fibre backhaul, separate from the cell operator if on a cell tower for example?

Hi Oliver

You were downloading heavily for about an hour before that. Your link has not had time to reset yet. If you completely back off for about 1 hour it will be at max again.

Nice day for you while we are all at work? :)

Hi CR34M3

All the radio and switch equipment still belongs to BitCo, but the Wifi Access Point that is provided with the link belongs to you.

Regarding signing up before the LoS tests, if for any reason we cannot install (trees, buildings etc) the order is 100% null and void. We also do not ask for any payments until the link is confirmed working and handed over.

Hope this helps clarify.

Our equipment looks similar to cellular equipment and yes we only use our own backhaul links either via radio or fibre.

My install is currently happening :)

LoS confirmed and the high site at Kyalami Castle is 4.2km away, the installation team is very friendly and willing to answer all my questions so far.

Good job BitCo, I wish every other company in this country treated its customers like this. Now I only hope I can have access to the line before the weekend :)

Hi Guys

I have a thatch roof house so installing on that will obviously be a no no. In preparation for my site test, how is power supplied to the external dish? Is it pure PoE? If so, what is the maximum recommended length of the cable?

Ideally, if I can have it mounted on the perimeter wall instead of the house I'd prefer that.

Hi Folks

Quick question ... any coverage in the Diep River, Western Cape southern suburbs for the Home Internet Solutions 5Mbs/10Mbs service?
