Mine is going to be borderline 60m. Quick measurement yesterday gave me 48m not including up the wall on each end.

Is there a particular cable type I should look at?

Our installations teams will evaluate when they come to survey / install. You don't need to worry about any cabling etc as we do all of this.

Thanks Garth, will chat to them when they come around then.

Regarding the dish antenna installation; do BitCo ever install them like satellite dishes (i.e. wall mounted bracket instead of a pole above roof level)? If so, can this merely be requested from the technicians upon a successful LoS test? (something like this)

I'm asking as this is the only type of installation I'll be able to get away with. :)
Something like this (but with a dish) might stand out too much.

Activated!

Will do some tests and will provide some feedback on the 10mb option. So far I am able to watch YouTube at 1080p without buffering, Twitch works on source settings without buffering. Good riddance Telkom.

looking forward to you giving me a reason to upgrade to 10mb.

Some initial thoughts:

The connection is excellent! I already managed to halve the speed for a couple of hours but back at 10mb now.

The speedtests below are being run while I am streaming Athene on Twitch.tv at source settings and while my wife is streaming series in another room, that said, enjoy:

Johannesburg: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3677202818
Cape Town: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3677206242
London: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3677194136
New York City: http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3677199351

If there are any other tests you would like to see, just let me know.

I have had the opportunity to sit on a couple local ISP backbones and while the speed of this connection is no match, the user experience has so far surpassed anything I've experienced thus far.

Comparing to my previous experience with Neotel WiMax:

The connections are very similar, but I will have to give this again to BitCo, both on user experience and pricing where Neotel charges R2299 for a 5mb/2mb(enterprise) option that has speed halved after 1.5TB and BitCo charging R1499 for 10mb/2mb(home) and only halving speed on continuous high usage, returning to normal after an hour or 2. - I know it is probably not fair to compare these products, but in my case the intended use is the same.

The FUP on BitCo is the most fair I have seen so far especially on a home product and I could not recommend this more highly with my experience so far.

Well done BitCo, you are sitting on a goldmine if you can keep this up.

I hate to sound like a stuck record but is anyone else willing to share install/equipment photos?

Garth, since you have access to some nice hardware, any load balancing kit you can offer with the installation? I'm looking for quality stuff such as Cisco or Peplink, not TP-Link.

HI

I might be moving and can only get bitco where I am moving to. I am curious to find out if there is a news server on bitco at all. or is that out the question?

Could you post some speedtests and traceroutes when you aren't downloading? :D

Seriously no help after 5pm?!

My internet was fine the whole night

Kinda unfair expecting help after office hours not so? You home on the internet and expect other people to be at work? :p

Just a correction, and especially for those without Bitco reception (like me :( ), Neotel has a home offer now which works is closer to the Bitco pricing:

Packages, with a R500 installation fee:

Pricing:

*1 Mbps -*R499
*2 Mbps -*R749
*4 Mbps - R999
*6 Mbps - R1499

Bitco guys came around and very friendly to do a test and I've got clear LOS with very good signal but there is a small tree on the one side that's not allowing them to install, that's QAD for me as a potential client.
For me to get the service I need to go to a stranger 3km away from me to ask him to cut down the tree.
Update,

After struggling for a week phoning sending mails just to get the report to find out what the real problem is,
BENONI WEBB TOWER.jpg

I got permission from the owners to trim the trees. Myself and a friend with a lot of other arrangements
started trimming trees on Saturday.
Broken rib cage and feels like a train ran me over it was accomplished.
what we will do just to get better internet:D just hope this was all worth it.
after.jpg

Now it's a waiting game again to get another phone call.
just hope it's soon.

LOS tests conducted in Auckland Park today. Negative - can't see Joburg or other high sites. This although we have Sentec tower and SABC buildings looming over us on the hill behind us. SAD. SAD. SAD. Telkom exchange way over subscribed due to UJ and other nearby academic institutions. Surely anyone with alternative infrastructure nearby is sitting on a gold mine. Garth, can BitCo do anything further? Your installers also mentioned a water tower perched on top of the hill. Maybe less bureaucracy?
