Hi guys,

First time poster on this forum... ;)
I have heared of Bitco from a few co workers who has it, and they say its awesome... Now my question, I live in Valhalla Pretoria. From where would they get LOS in this region.? And yes I have neighbours with a billion trees :(

Hi Mrauties,

Welcome to the thread.

Trees are always a problem as the technology relies on Line of Sight.

If you climb on your roof and can see a the PTA CBD then it would be worth investigating further.

if you PM me your full physical address i can plot the elevation for you and let you know what the possibility is of getting clear LOS

@Mike

Check your Inbox, you never got back to me on Friday like you said you would once the changes have been made... You also asked that I give you feedback on how the link ran on the weekend.... Not sure if the changes have been made or not, hopefully not, because the packet loss issue was still there

Time to test Bitco in this electrifying storm ;) So far, so good.. Well done Bitco! Couldn't be happier :D

Hi Guys,

Our hardware shouldn't be affected by weather, i'm sure you have all noticed when we install a link we use a very thick galvanized pole with an industrial bracket & outdoor shielded cable, this type of installation can withstand very extreme weather conditions.

The only time we would experience a problem on the hardware side would be if your pole takes a direct lightning strike, this would most likely blow the Radio and POE Injector. In the event of this happening a BitCo technical team would be dispatched to replace damaged components at no cost to you.

The link itself should operate normally in rain but during extreme weather conditions such as a hail storm whereby the Line of Sight is actually affected you may experience a few dropped packets.

This is very rare and if it happens it would be only for a few min as generally hail storms are not dense enough to actually block the LOS completely

Was just using Lync for a conference call, and suddenly quality became very bad. Checking some traces looks like something on the backbone that is done. Anyone else confirm? Also, does Bitco have a site where network status can be seen?

Can any of you guys inform now on the Gaming performance with bitco ?

Please a few may already know this but Gaming is a Huge part of my life and really don't want to have any issues.
So can i get a NO BS review of there latency details ?

I play almost only FPS games so that counts.

Thanks

I will probably be dragged over the coals for this, but here goes. If you want to have a decent gaming experience with the least latency, you have to have a fixed line solution.

Don't get me wrong, I think Bitco is an awesome SP. The connection which they supply to me is absolutely perfect for my needs, FUP and all. Stability is great, it's quick, no download limit means I have a set cost every month. I am connected to RDP sessions throughout the day, and have never been dropped due to connection loss. Yes 2 posts ago I mentioned an issue, every tech company has issues. Could be faulty hardware, could be a 3rd party system out of Bitco's control. I would expect issues with any SP I am using.

If you want very low latency, get a fixed line. Wireless is by nature fluctuating, latency and throughput goes up and down. That being said the latency I get on Bitco is actually extremely good considering it is a wireless solution.

Sorry dude, that is terrible... I wouldn't be happy with that even for browsing.

Question though, how come your ping/trace goes straight from the Wireless router to web? Do you not have a Cisco router between or is your routing set up differently?

Edit : Just realized you are not pinging from a Bitco connection... I'm a chop

Even messed up the attachments... Above one was when I was connected to the office VPN, below is what I get.

Can you post more than 4 pings worth of data? Maybe do a minute or two so we can get more of an idea as to what the average latency is like?

I'm waiting for the wireless team to contact me regarding a LOS test! I'm so excited I can't wait :D

@Bitco: It looks like you guys are throttling my download speeds. I would get full 10mb download via http now only getting 400-500 KBs...

Speed test yields full 10MB so looks like its throttling on your side. I am well inside the FUP so that's not the issue.

Looking forward to your response.

Afrihost at the office poked. They ordered an extra few GB bandwidth to deal with the iOS updates. No issues on bitco :p

Well my gaming is phenomenal! I mainly play Dota 2 and I only get 5ms ping. My phone is permanently connected and I don't even notice that on my 5Mb/s line.

Max I could fit in... This was run while I was jamming a Dota 2 Match

Ok so i bit the bullet and applied for a 10mg upgrade over my existing 5mg. Having trouble with netflix streaming at lower rate that cause my viewing pleasure to be less than ideal . Bitco says they will evaluate my readings and confirm if said upgrade may continue. I seriously hope I can watch my fav tv show withouht the image losing quality midway and then picking up 15 min later after the 10meg has been installed.

I've just suggested BitCo to a number of my fellow colleagues, only to read the last few pages of complaints and of Garth's absence in the thread.

Not a good sign, I'm considering going the 10mb route as I stream Netflix as well, but seeing the last 2 weeks' trend, I'm very hesitant.

Really don't want to pay R1500 per month where I cannot get hold of support people to assist me over a weekend.

Garth, Bitco, what's going on, your current customer base and future sales will be affected badly if you drop the customer support ball now!

I would also be interested in this, and I have a few friends who are interested in streaming/uploading YouTube videos that would be keen on this.

Sorry, quoted out of context. I was referring to the additional upload speed for the links.

Bump!

Haven't received a response on my PM or a reply to the above?

Hey Guys

Wanted to share my experience

So after much hassle, i finally got my 5MB wireless solution activated late Tuesday evening so i had that night and yesterday to test it out

Off the bat the line ran well but that was very short lived, it does not take much to get throttled

I am not a heavy downloader and yet i was throttled for the majority of the time

For instance, yesterday around 7:30pm i did an update on my Apple Tv which i would estimate to be around 300MB or so and took 17 minutes to complete. once completed low and behold i was throttled down to 2MBPS

So anyways i decided let me stream a movie, now while streaming i did a speed test and still had 0.6 MBPS down and 0.9 MBPS Up available so i was not killing the line.

After the movie i checked again and was still throttled to 2MBPS

Then i checked again just after 12 and guess what, still throttled

Only when i woke up this morning was the line back to normal

The throttling is extremely sensitive and i spend 90 % of my time being throttled when i wanted to use the link

I have logged a support request this morning and received a copy and paste job response within minutes which did not address my issue at all. It was a generic response

This has been a really bad experience thus far :-(
