BitCo Consumer Review

OK - another "maybe" new Bitco client

I read most of the thread and did the application on Thursday (09/10/2014).

The Pretoria CBD is clearly visible from my roof ...

I will update my process as it goes along - it is of great help to other potential clients to have understanding.

So far the "salesperson" was very friendly.

I am waiting for feedback currently 14/10/2014 - It is only 3 "work" days.

Cheers

Nico

I've just signed up for the 10Mbps and the LOS assessment will be done on Friday. So far their service has been fast, professional and accurate.

I'm a little concerned over the FUP being discussed. I went for 10Mbps as I need good upstream b/w for VC and want o stream HD video on a regular basis. From what I read, if I use my full 10Mbps for an hour, I'l be throttled to 2Mbps for the rest of the day? Is that right? So download a 4Gb software image and there goes the Netflix HD stream for the night?

With the 10Mbps you will be limited to 5Mbps. But the guys are working on the FUP to accommodate streaming.

Hi Beerygaz - when you say - "just signed up" when did you submit all the required docs ?

I ask as I sent everything and still no appointment for LOS assessment ...

Nico, I completed the order form on the 3rd. Got a call to schedule LOS/install on the 9th.

Wish the FUP trial would end now :o My connection was 100% till I started on the trial. Second time now the internet keeps dropping the connection and I'm kicked from PSN. Happened about a week ago too. I figured it might have been PSN but it wasn't. I can see the connection dropping on my PC saying No internet access and then after a few seconds it's connected again.

Not complaining at all, just want my normal internet back. Streaming seems to be working 100% but my gaming is crap now. Bleh, let me go watch a movie or something... Given it only started at 20:30 till now. Just damn annoyed.

Hope you down loaders are happy at least :p

Edit: 2

Seems like I had a rust update running on steam... No idea how that started. Maybe what happened on the line was part of the FUP trial. Seems to be back to normal now.

Hi Pitbull,

Thanks for the post

the problem you experienced has nothing to do with the new FUP or configuration

we experienced a fault last night in the back of Pretoria, a team was immediately dispatched and fault was cleared at around 22:45

I have checked your link this morning and it is operating 100% again

If you are still having problems please send us a PM and log with [email protected]

Hi Mike,

I have just had another provider come out to do an LOS after Bitco said they had nothing, but your techs only checked one section of the roof and then as per the photos, wanted to mount the dish on the wall at a low point. There was clear LOS to Grand Central and the water tower (not sure if you guys use those?) on a 6m pole. I would still prefer to use Bitco to another provider.

Please could you forward your advices. It would be greatly appreciated.

Angel

P.S. Second provider came out today as well, and also got clear LOS? Now I just don't understand?

Epic, thanks for the feedback Mike :)

i was wondering about the following and maybe someone here can explain.

what happens if you get a 5mb uncapped and you set your transfer speed at max 3 or 4mb ? will you still get shaped/throttled ? or only at full speed (5mb) for more than a hour ?

do you get a public ip ? or a Private ip ?

also any dota 2 players here ? what is your ping like on local South African servers ?

i have line of site in pomona ;)

You get a public IP

You will still get throttled, however it will just take longer to be throttled. So instead of after 1 hour it might be after 1.5 or 2. I have tested this myself and it is correct.

Requested an upgrade to 10Mbps on Monday. Hoping it will be done soon. More than happy with the 5Mbps service, been great thus far.

Thought I would just jump in here and mention that no one from bitco has even looked at my gaming latency issue and they still don't seem to be responding to my emails.

*sigh*

what games you play online ? what is your latency like ? is it consistently slow or does it spike ?

Hi there,

You get a public IP but it is static. So it should never change.

I play Dota and if I disconnect my phone then in game -ping shows 5ms but the net_graph shows 33 constantly...

So not sure which one is accurate but I have amazing pings and I also play over wifi.
