BitCo Consumer Review

Suggest you get a flask of coffee and start reading this thread, all the answers you need are there and that saves people having to repeat themselves. Enjoy!

@Ravetoad well I have read them all and from what I have read its a much better option then having any ADSL line with Telkom.
My Contract is up in December so will jump over to Bitco in January, start thew new year fresh

Sent a request. Five minutes later I get a call from them. Very impressive service. Bitco, as soon as you get setup in Cape Town. consider me your first customer :).

Hi Skippie,

I will have a final update on the FUP by the end of the week and will publish what we are doing moving forward, the feedback we have had from users has been great but we need our technical team to sign off the proposed changes before we move ahead with the roll out project.

On the P2P downloads we have slowed them down during the day to limit the abuse on our network, you will find slow speeds from 6am - 6pm and after 6pm the full speed will be available

We are soon planning on launching some new products being a 15Mbps option for our home broadband, we wanted to ensure we get the FUP 100% before launching some bigger pipes

Mike

Hi Mike,

Is this why I can't even login to wow this afternoon... because its being shaped?

Oh wait, I'm in with 4000ms... err help?

nope, no updates, I'm all patched up.

EDIT : so Jaco from support says that wow has changed their IP's, at first I didn't really believe him, but netstat confirms it and these need to get added to their prioritisation.

On another note though, Mike it seems you guys have gone a little over the top on the shaping, even my clash of clans is shaped and i cant connect.

O wow, that's news to me. Is it working now?

Btw, I forgot to run my patch last night so I'm updating via P2P while playing unfortunately.

edit: WOOHAA - Ping 1136ms. But it's working. Will give it a few minutes, bleh this will suck. I love the new Patch  WANT TO PLAY!

Well my latest episode of walking dead in nzb is coming down at an extreme 43kb/sec and its after 6pm.
before 6pm it was 2kb/sec

So anyone considering any type of downloading, I guess this is what you can expect on a 5mb connection.

Ping just a minute ago was sitting at 9.6k. Now it seems to be normal again. Then it spikes again... NO, please please please no. It has been perfect all this time. Not now

Nope, something is seriously wrong tonight. I have no idea what it is. Just hoping it's sorted quickly. I give up.

This is not good news. They are coming on Wednesday for site evaluation.
Let's hope things improve.

Never happens, I think it's something back-end. Not going to fuzz to much, will finish downloading the patch and watch something on Netflix.

So Im using a VPN service for the last week and all worked perfect, but ever since this morning my web browsing is pathetic. On a 10mb line I would expect things like youtube to be snappy. If I disconnect from the VPN service the site speed seems to restore to normal. One may be inclined to think the VPN is at fault but they have 20 different servers accross the world. Doesnt matter to which one I connect to the speed is pathetic. And seeing that FUP is the new buzz word I cant help but think that Bitco is slowing down ports that run on a VPN service. Even just going to google.com is a chore. Anyone else had an incident like this? Defeats the purpose of going to 10mb if im not even getting a 1/20th of the line speed. Even if I was throttled it wouldn't explain this.

Seriously bad tonight, 1k ping in WoW... 30% packet loss in CSGO.... and downloads getting shaped hard, getting around 30Kbs... But when doing a speed test everything appears to be fine http://speedtest.ookla.com/result/2739115408.png, really hope this shaping of the downloads is not going to be a new thing, I did not sign of this, I'd rather go back to the old FUP then

Hi Noemfie,

This is applicable during business hours so Monday to Friday 6am - 6pm and wont affect you on weekends

This has always been in place and is part of the FUP, we don't mind torrent downloads in the evenings but we need to limit the abuse of large unsolicited downloads during the day.
if you read higher in this thread you will see we have mentioned this a few times before

you will find your P2P will work during the day but will be slow, all services such as general web browsing, streaming of media will be completely unaffected

Mike

What a vague answer. No mention of speed per price point only slow. So it's possible that a p2p on 1mb will be the same as a 10mb p2p from 06.00-18.00. No concrete numbers shared only "slow". So if you don't use your line for a week and do a p2p on some idle Wednesday at 1pm you will be ....you guessed it, SLOW. No throttle period after 1 hour ,no full speed at all whatsoever even if you are so bored that you manually connect and disconnect your link every 60min you will be slow. This is defenately isn't a leaky bucket example this is a zero bucket to begin with example.

Same problem this morning still
