Bittorrent piracy Oscar winner announced

so we didn't get anything at the real Oscars, but at least we can claim this title! :p

I wonder how the DVD sales will do.
 
Sometimes I really wonder what basis the Oscars use to determine the best film category. I may live in my own little world, but Avatar was watched by more people, made more money and I haven't even heard of "The Hurting Locker" and it won? Even if most people are saying the storyline to Avatar was weak and long the stats must count for something?
 
the way I see it, the makers of this South African film were robbed of 12,6 million viewers, and that'll make it just wee bit harder to do District 10

That category is for the actual film itself. It doesn't have anything to do with how well it did at the box-office. They look at the film in it's entirety: the production of it, the directing, the acting, and of course the writing. So yes actually the stats count for nothing in the "Best Picture" category.

***WARNING: SPOILERS***

Sorry but Avatar didn't deserve to win. There were way too many holes, inconsistencies and needless elements. For example: Why did the lead character have a wheelchair? What challenge did it present during the movie that he needed to overcome? With the exception of that little 30 second scene where he tried to get the oxygen mask (hardly an epic moment in the film that altered the plot in any way) that wheelchair was pointless. He faced no negative by joining the race of giant blue kitties as all he was doing was leaving his crippled pathetic human body and becoming even more fantasmagorical as a blue kittie. Where was the personal sacrifice? Where was any mention of something in the human world that he would have to give up to become superKat?

What point did Michelle Rodriguez's character have? How did she advance the plot? When she disobeyed orders and refused to fire on the Home Tree why was she not thrown in the stockade with the science muppets? Why was there a remote monitoring station MSC shipping container when the futuristic WiFi system they used to control the avatars seemed to have no distance issues? What about the other 2 nerdy scientists whose names I can't recall? What impact did they have on the story? None whatsoever.

Why did all the bad guys equipment suddenly not work properly around that funny spirit tree thing while the good guys neck-strap walkie-talkie things still functioned properly? Not even a passing "well it is sure convenient that all our radios work for <insert_reason_here>" remark Cameron just expected the audience to not notice.

I mean come on. That film did not deserve Best Picture even with all the box-office success. Having said that the special effects were amazing... for whatever that is worth.
