Black Screen and PC freezes

Good morning,

About three months ago I got a Biostar RX 580 4gb for my son seeing as his 2x 7850's in x-fire wasn't doing the job anymore.

When playing Fortnite especially and other games,he would play and all of a sudden he gets a black screen and the PC freezes.
Sometimes it doesn't happen at all and sometimes it happens more than often.

When watching Youtube this doesn't happen. The card was bought 2nd hand and hasn't been mined with.
I also re-applied thermal paste to the GPU,CPU and cleaned up the whole PC.

Can it be the card or is his PC corrupted in any way?

I have my MSI RX 580 8gb to test his PC with but before doing that or worst case re-install Win 10 I just wanted to make sure if someone on My'BB has encountered the same issue.

Open the case and point a desktop fan at the board then try the game again.
May just be overheating (the above will tell you).
 
I put the exact same RX 580 in my sons PC, brand new, not 2nd hand. He lives on Fortnite and its rock steady. Try check the windows events for any critical warnings. I would also suggest running some heat monitoring possibly on both CPU & GPU. Sudden shutdowns are usually hardware related. Check the PSU, maybe switch power cables (you said you previously ran 2 GPU's, I'm guessing you have a minimum 600w PSU with two sets of 6 + 4 Pin plugs).

You may also want to check memory modules.... Also on the new Ati software, you can customize the fan profile for the GPU under games > general > wattman. Try keep the GPU cooler if necessary.

I have installed monitoring software but can't pick-up that there is any problems.
 
Ok,I see that on event viewer that he gets a lot of "DistrubutedCom" errors?
Can anyone tell me what this could mean?And if I read correctly on Google,the Biostar I bought for my son was a mining card.

Can I reflash the Bios to stock and where can I get the necessary files?
@Dark Agent I saw you helped somebody with that...can you help please?

It's a bit old. Might already be on it's way out - I would suggest swapping PSUs in you and your son's PCs to make sure it is, in fact, not the PSU.

Enough juice, sure. But PSUs often degrade badly with time. Some last a bit longer, some a bit shorter. It's always worth testing them out a bit.

I have the latest Bios for Mobo installed and will install new Gfx drivers tonight.
Thing is the pc never did this with one or two 7850's installed.

This only started happening after I installed the RX 580.
Checked the net and I can't find a stock bios for the GPU.

Only found 2 unverified ROM's on Tech power up site.
