Correct.

All BIS connections comes through the RIM NOC which is now located in Paris.
The speed of the carriers link is directly related to the performance that a subscriber on the local carrier network will experience.

Upgrades take time to happen , scheduling the links to be upgraded will happen at RIM's discretion as this is a nice expensive link straight to Paris.

I'm sure when MTN's uptake of Blackberry devices increases the way Vodacom has managed to do that they will also have speed issues (unless of they learn from the Vodacom saga)

I am trying to find out the Vodacom BB population compared to MTN and none of these carriers are accomadating in this request for obvious reasons.

When you got a BB attached to a BES server then the handheld will use that BES servers link to browse the internet on the BB browser UNLESS you browse via the Internet Browser OR Opera Mini or use any other app that does not agree with the blackberry.net APN.

In the end they connect from our phones to blackberry servers on the other end via service books that is done by blackberry. Vodacom has over sold there capacity for connection via data. MTN noticed it beforehand and double capacity before any one released there was issues with connecting to rim servers.

Fully agree with what you two are saying, vodacom and mtn just offers a transportation for the blackberrry service on there network and dont do the service themselfs.

BTW did any of you know that SA connecteds to a Blackberry server int europa and ther is none this side ?

Correct me if i am wrong, stil learning alot in this world. :erm: Like a guy from leaf(HTC) telling me today dat email is free.

Correct on the PIN/IMEI issue.

A acquaintance had a 8310 given to him but the IMEI was changed and he could not get a "data" connection despite having the correct provisioning on Blackberry's Provisioning system.

After 2 weeks of investigation it was found that because the IMEI was altered that all DATA services to that PIN was blocked.

Changing the IMEI back resulted in nothing by the sub , once you blocked you may as well throw the BB way unless you use it only for SMS and GSM calls.

As said RIM Legal is a finicky bunch.

The right way to do AppWorld by the local carriers is to allow downloads via it and that apps that are charged for should come off your account with the carrier since it should be linked to your GSM number (this is simply in practice but again RIM Legal)

Paypal / Credit Card while it works its not for everyone in this case for this exercise.

Fully agree with what you are saying.

In the ended this will just end up being a better place to have all questions answered regarding blackberries. It doesnt matter who your service provider is or not. They all work the same way. Unfortunetly vodacom has over sell their network for blackberries and that is way they have issues. MTN has double theres to give better speed to people.

If vodacom was not allowed to download bb app world, how come i can do so ? have vodacom service books, apn and sim but i am not being blocked ?

Here is my theary and those i know can corrected me, when i had an 8310(localy bought) i tried to download, was available for this country. Tooks sim out of curve and in to tour(imported from overseas) tried to download and it did. RIM blocks according to imei/pin which blackberries can download and which cant. When vodacom/mtn, gets theirs rim allocates a bunch of pin/imei's to south africa. My tour was allocated for america, so rim thinks i am there and the allows me to downloaded it. When it was in tour it picked me up as a south african user.

Please correct me if i am wrong :)

would be nice if we could have the appworld fullly functional as well. Like the idea that it would take it of from the account directly :)
