Blackberry on Prepaid?

Blackberry on prepaid

Thanx Magnus, but I'm not going to give up so easily.

Push email is one thing and browsing another. There must be a setting to allow browsing.

I have sent emails to vodacom to clarify.

Will see what we can find out. Will keep you up to date on mail, and post here once we have a definitive answer.

Ok , so here we have it.

No browsing with BB on prepaid

The upside is that the BB can still be used as a modem on prepaid, even if "data conn. refused" shows. :)

PM for more..

Gave up easily, did I? No data connection means no email and no browsing. End of story.

My Blackberry is for sale here

I'm not on prepaid but on contract and have a 7290 lying around. Getting the same no data connection message and no ability to browse or send or receive emails. Is this the same issue? No data abilities without the Blackberry contract?

Make sure you have the Blackberry service, BIS, activated on your contract.

Visit your nearest Vodashop to find out or call Vodacom Customer Care on 082111.

Why call 111 when Vodacom's dedicated Data Helpdesk 155 provides Blackberry data-related support?

True, but i meant for them just to check if its activated. Both 155 and 111 can do that.

**cough** - my method involves putting a tick in the correct box. :D

Sure, but 155 is surely better equipped to deal with anything data-related, correct?

While again true, is checking if BIS on a contract is activated Data-Related?

I would recommend 155 for when you having trouble receiving mail on your Blackberry yes, that IMO is Data-Related, as you do not need to be a Data Expert to check that :)

BTW - That is correct in so far as you wont have any blackberry services.

I think I'm correct in saying you could still use it as a grps modem.

Provided that a non-Blackberry-specific APN is used, e.g. the internet APN.

IMO anything data related is by definition data related, if a customer calls 111 and spouts something about Blackberry or BIS or data, the customer is more likely to receive a blank stare response through the phone - IOW rather call the people that are most likely to know what a customer is talking about. The other reason, which I have been avoiding posting - bcos I don't know if it is true, is that I suspect 111 has a much larger hold queue with potentially millions of people calling in for anything & everything, calling 155 should theoretically be less frustrating for a data customer.

Ja i know that. Also, why i mentioned 111 is that it was the only number that came to mind that time, becoz i had just woken up from a nap and posted...

What i usually do for Account related-Data queries is calling 155, and choosing option 5. Goes straight to accounts.

And when i hang there for too long, i hang up, dial 155, option 3, option 1, then 0, and get taken directly to somebody.

How long will it take to activate the R69 'unlimited' service thru the www.vodacom4me.co.za portal? And as far as I can see i can deactivate it when i please?

A friend had his up and running in a couple of hours.
