BlackBerry speed tests

Contract was migrated from blackberry 240 to prepaid about 20 months before it expired with no penalties.
Vodacom picked up my Bold last week Wednesday.

I guess after you started this Speed test thread and evoking all kinds of uncomfortable PR they made an exception and let you go with the least noise as possible :D

Sorry, could not resist this ;)

Glad you are happy with your Internet Speeds at MTN, thinking of getting my Bold 2 from them come Xmas :)

My Speed test says:

Unable to connect to network. Connection with the server could not be established check mobile network connection

I think that means 0.00Kbits/s down 0.00Kbits/s up

Here are the Speedtest results for my Blackberry:

Connection Type: Carrier
Avg. Download Speed: 192.19Kbits/s
Max. Download Speed: 192.19Kbits/s

Avg. Upload Speed: 40.58Kbits/s
Max. Upload Speed: 51.59Kbits/s

I notice that sometimes i get a timed out on all the applications and sometimes its quite fast.
The times when i get the timed out messages is when the 'data transfer indicator' on the top right has the 'data out' signal on permanently. A restart fixes this temporarily but before long its back.
I dont know what can cause this to happen. Maybe its network related or maybe device related. Does anyone have any advice please?

Back to square one again:

Earlier my upload speed was faster than my current download speed

This is my point why I am posting my speeds, good and bad so that in the final analysis the trend will tell the tale.

I would venture a guess and say it is not device related because there quite a bit of issues on the VC network, even their call center is not available.

Dont make any changes on your device if it worked properly before.

You could be right.
Hehe I'm not complaining though.
Yeah the Bold 2 looks awesome could well be a phone to look at once both the service providers get their blackberry services stable.

Going nowhere slowly ...

Does email still come through at these low speeds , or is it also erratic?

i don't trust the speed test app. I don't think it's accurate. Only thing i have to go on is the experience of browsing or trying to use the device features. Highly erratic is all i can say.

I await my next refund.

Emails are fine, even if there is a slight delay, you will still get it.

That is for standard text/html emails.

If you have attachments eg 5mb then it may take a while to download, given the slow speeds evident right now.

@assagai Online browsing is slow as molasses with page timeouts which is consistent with the Speed test results.

yup, but sometimes browsing is just fine (like after hours) and the speedtest app will time out. I don't trust it as a reliable indicator of what's going on.

As far as I remember, there was just one incident of mail delays on VC BIS, that was about two weeks ago.

At the moment there is no issue with email.

Test this by sending yourself a mail from your BB or if you have webmail and check how long it takes to get to you.

What I just did was to disable my GSM network and only have my WIFI enabled and got the following speed result:

Here are the Speedtest results for my Blackberry:

Connection Type: Wifi on my 8520
Avg. Download Speed: 491.36Kbits/s
Max. Download Speed: 518.46Kbits/s

Which is consistent with my 4MB ADSL connection so it cannot be inaccurate.

This morning I had excellent throughput though.
