Is your phone and simcard available for sale?

You could become a millionaire if you put it on auction, as it is the most unique phone in SA.

Anyone else able to replicate this?

It seems some of the Tests are bordering on the edge of hysteria.

Lets keep it real, else this thread will lose all credibility and end up wasting contributors time and we dont want that.

While some people have been questioning the speed test and what it actually tests for, VCD and fismail comes to mind, it is very simple to check whether the test is consistant with your browsing experience.

Earlier I disabled the GSM and only enabled WIFI and did a WIFI based test and it reflected the fact that it was WIFI.

I believe most people will not really run a test if their browsing/download experience is fine, only when they are finding poor performance.

Point to take home here is that the Vodacom Blackberry Internet Service is inconsistant which this thread has established.

Going back 24 hours, I was posting great speeds and fismail had poor performance.

I would venture a guess, it seems the load is being spread as there is not enough for all, just how it looks to me.

Prove me wrong please and let all subscribers get a great BIS experience, not borrow from Peter to pay Paul.

Still no response from VodacomData

We waited for the 24 October and now what?

Some of the posts above look _real_ so does that indicate an _upgrade_ that was successful :erm:

Those are insane speeds, the most sought after BlackBerry in SA

Your speedtest posts are making me wonder what continuing value this thread has.

Not only value, but credibility

also, believe it or not, these continual speedtests ARE having a detrimental effect on the service, so try and chill out on the testing.

The app isn't very accurate, but we don't need that app to know that BIS is slow and very often useless.

In the interest of saving the VC BIS network some bandwidth my speed test rating would be guestimated at 17% of what it should be. :erm:

That is the seat of my pants rating based on the sad Internet experience I am having fwiw.

hehe, i feel your pain :erm:

very interesting.
i wonder if the rim data compression has some effect on these types of tests.

On BIS 8520:

Your result: 302916Kb

As a comparison on ADSL I get:

Your throughput: 323* K

Using WIFI on 8520:

Your resulsts: 340781Kb

BlackBerry Speed test app:

15.64Kbits/s

It actually feels like 15.64Kbits/s as in slow as molasses.

yup, 15k sounds about right for the kind of performance i'm getting.

Seems like BIS is sorted, performance is much better.

Nothing official yet, but some birdies were tweeting the good news.

Keeping fingers crossed that this is going to last.

If it does then my sig will have to change accordingly :D

Nope, not ready to jump for joy yet, if there was a fix something must have broken it again.

Feels like yesterday again, somethings wrong.

This is the first time that I have seen test results like these on my BB8520.

I put my virgin mobile sim card into my blackberry last night, speedtest was very similar to that of BIS, roughly an average of 70Kbits/s. Tried browsing on Opera, oh boy, what a difference! Not sure what that means, but one of the vodacom guys i spoke to at vodacare said they were shaping browsing to make more bandwidth for the blackberry push email service. I have no problems with my emails currently, the vodafone satnav has even started working, but I still can't browse at all!
