Seems like the Blackberry Storm is making waves. ;)

Blackberry Storm

The very first time you touch the BlackBerry Storm—RIM's first all-touchscreen keyboard-free smartphone, just announced for Verizon Wireless—you will be startled. No matter how many times your fingers dance on the screen like you've been trained on every other touchscreen, nothing will happen. At least, not until you push the screen all the way down and you feel a click. Yes, the screen is a giant button, one you have to punch for basically every action, even every letter you type, completely breaking the touchscreen paradigm. Surprisingly, it works.

Does anyone know when the Blackberry Storm is going to be released in SA?

Every review I've read for the Storm was unfavourable. Especially from the New York Times. Someone from MTN Direct said they were testing it now, don't know how true that was though.

Cellucity says its DEFINATELY going to be released in February.:)

Read a lot of reviews saying that the "click" screen is tiresome when typing using the QWERTY keyboard,it makes sense though as you have to press down on the screen instead of tapping it(can't understand why RIM didnt include the tap feature aswell for texting).Storm not looking to good at the moment but imo with the features it has its likely to persuade some people away from the iPhone. Some of the features or lack therof in the iPhone 3G is just unforgivable but the UI remains the best and its going to be very hard for any of the manufacturers to dethrown it.

If I had to do it all over again

Fantastic now Blackberry users can get ripped of like Iphone users and everyone else. Thank you Vodacom. I'm quite happy I got my Bold from MTN now.

If I had to choose again, I'd choose the Bold (even with its quirks) over the iPhone and Storm. I'd also choose MTN (even with the contract migration wait) again.

It wins over the iPhone for me because of the awesome keyboard, unlimited fixed rate surfing (appart from the WAP streaming and file size limitations), MMS, copy/paste, flash, Bluetooth, video recording (out of box) and Blackberry Maps (which work better than Google Maps where I live).

The iPhone is a cool phone, but just not for me. The keyboard and data package was a deal breaker for me. The iPhone has an amazing developer community, but Blackberry is building its own and it already has unofficial stores like crackberryappstore.com

The iPhone's web surfing experience is also awesome, but I use RSS (Viigo) mostly to read my favourite sites. The media aspect of the iPhone is also awesome since it integrates well with iTunes, but Blackberry has Roxio and MediaSync (that works with iTunes).

My advice is to be honest about what you want in a phone, and then see which one will cover your needs.

The Bold changed my life.

My mother is finally upgrading her 7290 today for a Bold.

Since she doesnt use it for calls the 7290 actually suited her needs pretty well but it was beginning to fall apart so we figured it was time :)

Got an email from Smartcom saying that the phone will be here during the course of this month for testing and should be available to consumers by the end of March.

Thats great news can we maybe expect the Storm to appear on the new deal lists coming out on the 7th of January? ?

There has been no changes to the deal lists for January so I guess not.Maybe february?..........
