An African National Congress Member of Parliament has called for racists to be "blacklisted".

Jabulani Mahlangu made the call during a debate on racism in the National Assembly, which was requested by Freedom Front Plus MP Pieter Mulder.

Mahlangu reiterated the call for the criminalising of racism.

"We call for the establishment of a national register of racist offenders as part of tightening the legislation. We need to ensure that racists are blacklisted," he said.

He said the list of racists should be made available to embassies, so they might reject applications for visas and work permits.

"These racists must only remain here in South Africa so that we manage them so that when they are fine we can only then expose them to the rest of the world," he said.

Mulder said racism must be condemned by all.

He questioned the root of the university protests.

He said the current protests were mostly artificial.

Mulder said small numbers of activists were fuelling the violence in the universities.

Democratic Alliance MP Prof Belinda Bozzoli said it was not unexpected that racial hatred had emerged.

"The unstoppable force of increasing numbers of poor students has met the immovable object of the costs of running proper universities," she said.

Economic Freedom Fighters MP Thembinkosi Rawula said the violence of racism frowned on black dreams.

He said black people were not considered human by racists.

This, he said, was why it was normal for black people to earn up to six times less than their white counterparts.

United Democratic Movement MP Nqabayomzi K****wa said Afrikaans should not be forced on students.

So how many ANC members are going to get blacklisted?

So how many ANC members are going to get blacklisted?
I'm sure special rules for ANC and how it was taken out if context.

If legitimately enforced then the ANC can't play the only card they have.

Oh sure, denounce people and deprive them of freedom of movement and the ability to work because you don't like what they think. Should work out well, just like it did in every other oppressive regime in history that tried the same BS. I don't endorse racism, but one man's racism is often another man's criticism/humour/contrarianism/protest/dissent. This kind of thing is a very slippery slope to totalitarianism.

By all means take action within the framework of the law against anyone who commits a concrete, physical or measurable act of racism that has negative consequences on others, but do we really want a situation where the state maintains a "blacklist"? What next? Ship off anyone deemed to have politically incorrect thoughts to labour camps in the Karoo?

Will those accused of racism also get a yellow star to wear?

Zero originality. Then ban the political parties of which they are members and imprison their leaders on an island off CT?

Wow. Such hatred for white people.

I hope he can sleep at night.

No originality as usual. Your NP brethren had the same list of people they considered "unsavoury."

So it is perfectly fine for the ANC to continue to spread hatred, because it happened in the past?

Who's NP Brethren are you referring to?

Fine by me, but only if every single one of those "fark white people" students are blacklisted as well.

What are you on about? Where did I say it's fine for the ANC to spread hatred? Quite the opposite, I have equal hatred for both the ANC and NP, birds of a feather...

Your response made it sound that way. I apologise.

Pieter Mulder: Simply ask for this shyte to stop as it may sink the country

Jabulani Mahlangu: Penny mentioned (fair enough). But also so Chris Hart IS a racist. Gareth Cliff IS a racist. Nothing is said about black people that also launched racial attacks, it's all about "white racists", "masters" and other like hate and race propagating drivel. Bottom line, it against whites and nothing more than cheap politics.

Belinda Bozzoli: Analyzes how we got to here. Makes good points (scary stares!)

EFF: Typical drivel and rhetoric.

Need I say more?

While I'm not denying racism may exist and does, it's also not what is being said here. It comes from both sides.
