Blackouts starting now: Eskom

Damn, I've got like a thousand ebooks on my tablet. I better start printing them quick quick.
 
At least the last person to leave don't have too switch off any lights...
 
Two to three weeks to start it up again? That basically will mean our economy has collapsed as well. I just cannot imagine it.
 
4 hours today, 18:00 to 22:00. No 3G either....

Once that happens, it may take 2-3 weeks to restore electricity.

It's going to take a lot for this to happen, but it is certainly a remote possibility. If it happens, just two weeks of total power loss will set us back five to ten year's worth of growth. There will be businesses and corporations that would shut down in a week. If it happens, people will be hauling ass to the nearest supermarket for food and supplies. Generators will sell out in hours. A complete collapse in the energy grid for two weeks would also be devastating crime-wise.
 
Relax people - its not going to collapse.

We're going to see a couple of years of barely scraping by though.

No it won't. Sure it'll cause massive damage but lets not be overly dramatic here. Besides...all the companies that would get knocked out by a 2 week shutdown are the weak ones near collapse anyway.

Personally the couple of years of scraping by scenario sounds worse to me though - semi-reliable power just nukes everything of economic value.
