Bloemfontein FTTH Thread

Isn't there OpenServe fibre already in U-ridge?

There is, I was just curious on the status of the roll out and live date ;)

Going to place an order for Openserve fibre as I can't be without the net for too long. Maybe in the future I'll opt for SADV / Frogfoot, but for now, Openserve fibre will do :)

Hi Stephan,

Thanks for the confirmation. I've been sending you emails to ask if SADV is also in the process of deploying in Universitas-Ridge? I did see the SADV signage so it's pretty much a given then. I'm moving to the Ridge in the next 3 weeks, how long till it's live plus minus? :)

Hi Leon,

I'll inquire with the Project manager of SADV which is dealing directly with the Suburbia Roll-out as I only work with Complexes and I'm not at liberty to give timelines on Suburbia.

Hi all,

Quick update.

At the end of last month (July) they said the go live date for fiber is going to be mid August...
It's end of August now and according to the signup4fiber site our Complex go live date has been pushed out till end of September...

Also there are still some work left in our complex like fixing things that the trustees are unhappy with the work that the contractors did.

Seeing that they missed those things upon inspection I will however take pictures of the things they still need to fix with descriptions and send to them.

They still need to link the fiber to the main line in front of our Complex and test all the units to see that everything is fine. They said that they will be finished with all that by mid August but still waiting...

I also placed my order on signup4fiber site and Cool Ideas and still waiting for a date when CPE will be installed.

Lastly there seem to be a huge issue with Telkom and their cancellation of service like landline and dsl lines. Read an article this morning on MyBroadband "Telkom customers are going crazy trying to cancel their lines". That also lies ahead but with the delays in the finalizing of the fiber not sure when I can start cancelling my Telkom services...

Feels like at this trend Frogfoot will finish up the same time we who signed up with DFA/SADV will be able to use our fiber...

I feel that SADV/DFA are trying to do as much as they can before the competition but at the same time, not deliver on promises (aka having too much hay on their pitchfork). I can't wait to move next week Thursday, going with Openserve in the Ridge. Not going to wait for SADV to go live (end of October) and Frogfoot will probably only get there next year at some point.

All you can do is be patient. I know it sucks, but be a nuisance, that's all you can do until they get their act together.

Good luck!

Hi Guys,

Anyone know who is installing in Fichardtpark at the moment.

Hi Warmunger,

Chances are good that it's either SADV (via DFA) or Frogfoot, although I'd put my money on the former for now seeing that Frogfoot are finishing up with LHP first, before moving on to different areas. You can always check out the coverage maps on for both on their sites:

a) SADV - https://signup.sadv.co.za/ (Just add in Bloemfontein in the search box)

b) Frogfoot - https://www.frogfootfibre.com/frogfoot/myaccount/home//frogfoot/coverage.jsp (Bloemfontein selectable from the dropdown box)

Hope that helps :)

It's been 3 months since our complex gave SADV all the signed documents to hook us up to fibre - still waiting for something to happen.

You're only hope is to check the SADV website (https://signup.sadv.co.za/ ) , search for Bloemfontein and then zoom into your complex in LHP and click on it. Then hit the "Detailed site status" (green button). There it will indicate when your complex will go live. The dates do change from time to time. Universitas-Ridge was supposed to be live end of Oct, but now it's been pushed on to end of November. Chances are good it might be the same for your complex.

It's not even green on the map yet, so there is no detailed site status :crying:

Damn, then I suggest you contact Mr. Maritz asap via email at [email protected] and query what's going on for your complex. I wonder how are things going at @CyrusVx 's complex with their installations.
Yeah..that does not sound right...should have at least started with your complex by now!
If you have his number call him rather than mailing. You can also check on Bloemfontein Fiber Facebook page if his number is there.

@StoneCold it's been almost 2 months now after they finished with the installation, DFA still has to link their line in the street with our complex and the entire LHP is waiting to go live as DFA and Frogfoot is waiting for SANRAL...last time I talked to Stephan he said they will hopefully hear from SANRAL by Friday...

Good grief, dealing with SANRAL is a long and tedious process, believe me I've dealt with them too in the past. I suppose they need to give the green light to dig through / underneath the N1 to complete the link into LHP, no doubt?

Yeah, exactly the same with DFA/Frogfoot...they need the green light to drill underneath the N1...and dealing with SANRAL is a nightmare...
Aparently SADV will have a meeting tomorrow to discuss this so will keep you posted on this when I hear something.

Hi guys,

Quick update; Did you know that SADV is busy in the following Suburbs aswell: Dan Pienaar, Heuwelsig, Pellissier, Baysvalley and Kiepersol aswell as Rayton?

Nice neh!

Give me a shout if you need help, [email protected] or [email protected]

Been checking this thread on and off the past few months since I moved out of a townhouse that had no internet besides wireless with Iclix to our own house and Iclix wasn't able to help anymore as they didn't have line of sight. I was really hoping we'd have the option of fibre, but ADSL is having to make do in the meantime.

Any ideas for a timeline for Bayswater? Many of the availability checkers have got Wilcox and Waverly road as fibre ready or planned, but I'm literally a street down and I don't know how many other people in the area have indicated interest for fibre - I've registered an interest anywhere that's been asking!

I'm glad that things are at least happening in this quite ole town of ours though

I don't think it is true, my brother in law got connected yesterday, he even sent me the speed test as proof. (Frogfoot Sector 1 Langenhoven Park) Unless the N1 is a DFA/SADV only problem.

Yeah, I too believe that only SADV might be affected by the SANRAL issue.

I'm so glad to see FrogFoot doing installations near my area now - really tired of waiting for SADV to respond to my e-mails, whatsapp and FB messages.

Edit: Finally got a response - my e-mail getting forwarded to hopefully the correct person :P
