Bloemfontein FTTH Thread

Ok, when I got home tonight I saw road signs in front of our complex so looks like they are continuing with trenching in the street here :D

Good to hear :)

Sadly here where I live in Jan Spies there isn't a lot of action at our complex, but I believe once they're done expanding the road something might start to happen (if we're lucky).

Highly doubt any fibre would breach my complex in any case as the trustees isn't even aware of it being rolled out. As a tenant, I have no power other than to ask them to consider it. Maybe once Frogfoot starts their rollout in the future I can convince them otherwise. At least I have ADSL, which is better than nothing.

They probably stopped trenching because of the wet weather.
It looks like they trenched down Wynand Mouton on the southern side as well but stopped just short of the sharp turn.
Vodacom trenched in front of my house but it was for one of their towers, not consumer fibre. If the providers share the pipes I could potentially get fibre without them trenching in front of my house again.

Hi All,

Any updates on the LHP fiber project, one week they are trenching like mad and now I don't see anyone working...We also haven't had our Trustee meeting with DFA/SADV on the plans to install Fiber in our complex.

They stopped trenching 20 Meters from our complex and not sure when they will start again, there are about 10 townhouse complexes alone in the street our complex is...
Are there any complexes where they started installing the Fiber yet?

There is a few Complexes where SADV have already started but the rain is causing a delay unfortunately.

Complexes in progress are;
1. Kleinbosch
2. Toskana
3. Taragonna
4. Philadelphia
5. Princess Gardens
6. Morningside
7. Pecanwood
8. Avignon

I will put up an update as soon as a new Complex is started as there is another 25 to still install.

Please contact me should you need more information or would like to get signed up for Fibre to the Home for your Complex.

@SMaritz
I send you a mail 16 Mar to [email protected]. I haven't received a reply yet?

Good morning,

Sorry your email was moved to my junk folder.

Just responded.

You are able to get Fibre even though you do not live in a complex.

As soon as you see the black box on the sidewalk outside your house you are able to be connected.

Interesting, didn't know you guys were covering residential addresses as well, thought you were only focusing on complexes :)

So Vox and Frogfoot had a stall at the Boeremark this weekend and I went there to speak with them. They are currently taking pre-orders for Sector 1 LHP. They plan to finish the whole of LHP end of Oct this year. Said they will be at the market every Saturday for those who are interested.

I saw Vox's mini blimp on Saturday and I also noticed that the Frogfoot coverage map is now "In progress" for LHP which is very nice to see!
Also, I do believe, DFA is finishing up their work in LHP in some areas, cleaning up and putting Paving back and so forth.

I asked one of the clearlineIS guys working there and he said they will be pushing through the actual Fiber this week or next week and it should take about 2 weeks.

Just an update on the Complex I live in, we haven't heard back from SADV about when they will start to install the Fiber inside our complex.
I noticed that they started trenching in Nelson Mandela so the incoming fiber to LHP looks good.

@SMaritz can you maybe give us an update on the current Complexes they are busy with and the next complexes in the queue?

Awesome, I actually met with the project manager of Frogfoot for lunch about a month ago when he also told me of their idea to have a stall at the boeremark with the necessary details. Good to hear that Frogfoot intend on having the entire LHP covered by end of October. They have plans for the rest of Bloem and not just LHP, which is really exciting. Can't wait to see what the future of fibre holds for the rest of Bloemfontein.

Seeing some complexes, like Avignon getting fibre installed in their complex last weekend already made me a bit depressed. Just hoping that my bloody complex's trustees get their foot out of their you know what and get onboard with fibre deployment. Not to mention the managing agent (PPA) not interested in doing anything about it from their side either and keeps on ignoring me with any queries / requests. It really frustrates me as a tenant trying to convince them just to discuss it at their next meeting. Guess if I don't keep on doing it, they wouldn't really just care at all, seeing that there are quite a few elderly folk living there that won't like the "disruptions" it would cause inside the complex during deployment.

Sigh...I just want fibre, it's it really that hard to understand?

@Stonecold - howzit ou Maat - Long time no Type!!! - Lucky you guys ! Here in the Vaal - not much happening :(
Still having paper cable and 2.5mbps-3.5mbps in Sasolburg. Now the DREADED "exchange congestion" is hitting us.
No LTE-A footprint in my area and Wisp providers are unstable for gaming as expected.

Ek onthou jou OUPA, long time no post soos jy seg ;)

I really feel for you guys, maybe one day you will join the "fibre privileged" ranks.

Just a heads up for the rest of the Bloem people, Frogfoot updated their coverage map to show which other suburbs they are going to tackle in the future: https://www.frogfootfibre.com/frogfoot/myaccount/home//frogfoot/coverage.jsp

Good to see Fichartpark, Wilgehof, Universitas to name a few listed there on the Bloemfontein coverage map. Highly doubt where I live in LHP I'll get access via them, but does make my life easier in the future when I need to move to a bigger house. Will make choosing a new premises much easier with their roll out plans :D

My wife just sent me a pic of guys digging in front of our house!!! (Peet van der Merwe Street)
I recon it is SADV, I see them laying a lot of fiber in LHP but I don't see them connecting houses at the moment. Here's hoping...

They were also digging in Hendrik Sameuls last week and I see they have a complex connected there already. I get the feeling the entire LHP is going to light up with Fiber soon...can't wait :D

Yeah guys, the fibre revolution has finally hit Bloem. It's not just DFA (SADV) that's laying fibre in LHP at the moment, Frogfoot has also started with their rollout in LHP, so you'll see them everywhere. They will have the entire LHP covered including lots of other suburbs in Bloem in the coming months, so just be patient ;)

Just a quick update for anyone part of a PPA managed complex in LHP:

Frogfoot has signed an agreement with PPA to bring fibre to PPA managed complexes (yay for that). Be rest assured, you'll get fibre. End of October can't come soon enough for my sector :D

Now why would they sign up with Frogfoot and not SADV...DFA/SADV already have infrastructure in LHP, Frogfoot only started with their infrastructure a few days ago...
Glad to hear your managing agent have finally decided to jump on the fiber bandwagon! :D

It seem that DFA is about 90% complete with it's infrastructure in LHP, now only SADV to catch up and install Fiber to rest of the complexes who signed up.
There are already quite a few complexes that are live in LHP, can check on Facebook's group "Bloemfontein Fibre" as Stephan provided an update there.

Installation/Meetings for our complex will hopefully be kicked of in next 2 weeks and hopefully have Fiber before end of June :D

Well, lets just say that PPA needed a bit more "convincing" to get them on board it seems. Don't think they liked what SADV/DFA had on offer, but anyhow, its done and dusted now.

Believe me, Stephan, myself and a whole division of STS Solutions tried end of last year, to get PPA on board. I know its the trustees really that have final say, but PPA had some more say as to who or what should do the rollout etc.

I'm just thankful that things are now sorted for us, especially as a tenant :)

Apparently we have a trustee that doesn't want to believe that having it installed in the complex is free - hopefully our chairperson can sort it out. At least NRE is totally on board with fibre.

So nice seeing all the fibre getting installed in LHP :D Can't wait to drop my analogue telephone line...

Quick update from my end!

Had our kick-off Meeting this morning (01JUNE) with STS/SADV/DFA. Thanks Stephan for setting this up and getting us so far!
They are going to start Fiber installation in our complex on Monday 04JUNE and it will take about 2 weeks.

There are quite a few complexes already Live in LHP, but cannot get internet yet, because from what I understand is that DFA is awaiting authorization to drill through underneath the N1 to get the fiber from Nelson Mandela to LHP connected and when that happen the entire LHP will go live and just awaiting SADV installation inside the complexes to finish

Nice one!

Lets hope for your sake the authorization to drill underneath the N1 doesn't take ages. Saw them dig on both sides of the N1 the last 2 weeks and had a feeling that it was DFA's work. I'll need to be patient a bit longer for Frogfoot to come to my complex come October, but my 12mb ADSL will have to tide me over till then.

Keep posting updates in the thread, always nice to keep track of how things are progressing :)
