Bloemfontein FTTH Thread

Thanks!

Guess I'll wait for the wifi router to be delivered. The Afrihost mail notes: "Simply enter the details below on your router settings to connect to the internet, and that's it! ", but I must be missing something, as I don't see how I should do that if I can't get into the settings in the first place.

Yeah, you can connect any ADSL router to the fibre ONT if the router has an EWAN port. You simply run an ethernet cable then from the ONT (port 1 generally) to the EWAN port on the router. Then, in the router you would then enter the connection details (as outlined in the Afrihost mail notes) and you'll be set. If you don't have any router, you'll need to wait for it to be delivered then :)

Ah, thanks for clearing that up - I thought the Nokia one WAS the router, just with no wifi

I'll be most definitely there, can't wait to meet you guys :)

I live in a townhouse in LHP near the Telkom Exchange (+-500M), but our body corporate are the owners of the townhouses, we are not managed by someone like National Real Estate. There are quite a few townhouses around us that is managed by them, so I do hope DFA and SADV will lay fiber in the street.
When they do, how do you suggest I go forward in acquiring fiber for my townhouse?

Well, once they start construction of laying down fibre close to you guys, I'd say you should get your body corporate onboard. I can provide with a few email address at that stage too to get the ball rolling. But let's first see how they get along. They already started with trenching in Jan Spies avenue, so things are finally happening :)

You can still email STS and we can assist your complex - it doesn't have to be through a managing agent :)
Send an email to me [email protected] and I will get your details to the correct person.

Been a long time since this thread has been active.

Just a update from my end and maybe a installation Tracker/Timeline of the entire Fiber installation process for our Complex/Estate in Langehovenpark:

17JAN2018: Complex/Estate signed the Fiber Agreement from SADV
26JAN2018: Site Survey of Complex/Estate by Sub-Contractors of SADV and DFA
?????????: Meeting with all Trustees and Sub-Contractors of SADV/STS of entire installation process (When it will happen, where they will be digging trenches, and where the Wall boxes and so on will be installed)

Might be able to share some photos when installation takes place.

Nice one. Guess it's time that I too have a meeting with my complex's trustees to get the ball rolling as our managing agency ignores me flatout with regards to fibre queries. Please do share pics as soon as things start moving along on your side :)

Great!!! Well not sure when FrogFoot will start with their installations.

Someone in LHP also working at the same company I work gave me a printed letter they received in the mail recently.

It is from ClearlineIS, which I assume is the Contractors assigned for the trenching to lay the fiber in LHP.
I will not add the numbers in the text below, if anyone requires the numbers please send me an PM.

Dear Valued Resident

ClearlineIS, on behalf of MTN, VODACOM, CELL C and DFA are presently laying an Optic Fibre Route in and around your area.
The process includes trenching and installation, of pipes and manholes.
In order to achieve this, the contractor will be required to remove soil, grass, plants, paving etc, along the path of the trenching.

The contractor will reinstate all soil, grass, plants, paving etc, to its original form.

If you are not satisfied with the reinstatement and cleaning of the site please feel free to call the person/people below.

We wish to apologize, in advance, for any inconvenience which may occur during the duration of construction and wish to assure you that every effort will be made to eliminate such inconvenience and that all your queries will be attended to with the minimum delay.

Contact Person Contractor: Avendra Naidoo
Contact Person Contractor: Aumkar Ramsunder
Contact Person Clearline: Jason Bird
Contact Person Clearline: Brett Gibson

Kind regards
CLEARLINEIS

Awesome sauce!

When I drove to Dischem in LHP yesterday I saw that they're digging like men possessed all over the place. And then I knew, its fibre and lots of it. While I'm positive, I'm also a bit negative seeing that when I last spoke with STS Solutions' representatives, my managing agent (PPA Solutions) weren't too keen on getting involved.

Now I know that I don't need my managing agent involved as I only need to get the trustees sorted and signed up. But seeing now that Frogfoot has included the entire LHP (my complex and street included) I'm a bit more positive about it now. Guess I'll hit up Frogfoot and find out if they can provide me with more info and if they and STS Solutions have any agreement between them like that of STS and DFA.

Anyhow, just glad that things are finally starting to light up in LHP with regards to freaking fibre and about damn time too :)

STS currently only have an agreement with us at SADV.

Anyone interested to get on the band wagon of the Fibre roll-out of LHP can email me on [email protected]. We, together with DFA are bringing Fibre to each and every street in LHP. A lot of Complexes have signed up with us and by 31 March 2018 31 Complexes will have Fibre.

We are working hard at the Managing agents to realize the benefit. Even thou the decision rests with the Trustees of a Complex the Managing agents block us to market it to them. Feel free to contact me directly on [email protected] or [email protected]

Tell me about blocking the marketing!

Spoke to one of my complex's trustees yesterday afternoon and he wasn't aware of anything fibre related currently happening in LHP and that's after a million and one emails to the sectional title of PPA last year. Keep in mind however that I'm not a trustee, so the sectional title probably didn't take any of my requests to heart and ignored me completely. The trustee did promise however that he'll bring it up at their next meeting and keep me in the loop. Sadly I think it might be a little too late. Perhaps Frogfoot will have better luck, but I'll get word from them later today about the situation :)

Hi All,

Any updates on the LHP fiber project, one week they are trenching like mad and now I don't see anyone working...We also haven't had our Trustee meeting with DFA/SADV on the plans to install Fiber in our complex.

They stopped trenching 20 Meters from our complex and not sure when they will start again, there are about 10 townhouse complexes alone in the street our complex is...
Are there any complexes where they started installing the Fiber yet?

Ok, when I got home tonight I saw road signs in front of our complex so looks like they are continuing with trenching in the street here :D
