Blood Pressure...

Anyone know about BP monitors? I've heard that it's best to buy a 'clinically validated' machine due to the inconsistent readings of cheapies.

Just buy a reputable brand like Braun from clicks or dischem. 2 different Dr's offices used it to measure my wife's blood pressure during consultations.
Edit: I'm just giving you the easiest option so that you don't over research this. There are probably other brands but I know they easy to get from those common retail stores mentioned above

I am sure everyone buys one of these or dischem ones. How would one tell the difference of this and "clinically validated" ones? I didn't even check. :-(

You wont. Thats why experienced doctors still do it the old way with the steths. Its good enough for home use though

Last time I went and got it checked at the pharmacy I decided to just buy one. Same one that they were using and it only cost £20. Sure, it’s not worth thousands, but for what I need it to do it doesn’t need to be, either.

When I bought one a couple of years ago I took it with me to my next GP appointment so we could check that the readings were in the same ballpark.

Just a fun thing that happened to me, went to the GP, checked my blood pressure, was apparently kind of high, 140/90 or something. Thing is i was nervous, the GP told me it might be the "white coat". Surely enough at the end of the consultation it went down by quite a margin, i think it was 125/80 or something.

Good GPs usually do the test twice because most people are nervous the first time around.

Inconsistent would be a problem. Being off, but consistently so would be fine. In that case you could compare against the result of another method to determine the inaccuracy. It would be harder to deal with imprecision.

Been walking a few KM's in the mornings and taking some turmeric & cayenne shots daily.

This is amazing. Interesting to see what we eat does in our bodies. I have never heard blood pressure problems but when I first got measured last year (just a check up), I recorded 138/91, and the doc said its okay for my age. I then embarked on a low carb journey diet. In morning, I eat oats with chia seeds, hemp seed powder and almond butter with a drizzle of honey. Strictly no carbs in the evening, just roasted veggies and lean meat. Coupled with regular exercise, my blood pressure recently went down to 128/74. Keep it up

I'm pretty happy since I was in the emergency room with a BP of 200 / xx about 2 years ago :)

Lost 7kg over last 4 months but it didn't make any noticeable difference. I thought there would be at least 5 points drop. Hoping to drop 15kg to reach target weight before year end so maybe something will happen.

Hectic. I have had 190/91 at doctors room before and didn't feel a thing. Silent killer. Did you have high salt intake in your diet that time?

Currently sitting with BP issues,

ranges from 148/95 to 190/105,

but I am monitoring it daily and its coming down little by little.
Using a cheapie monitor for daily tests, doc has a more fancy one

eish, 159/101 this morning

Woops.
Anyone using over the counter stuff to help with high bp?

Don't mess around with blood pressure. Go see a doctor asap.
Get diagnosed and have the chronic condition registered and get the correct medication. You will be forced to go see a doctor every 6 months which is actually a good thing, because things can and will change.

159/101 is where this gets serious. You don't want to end up having a heart attack.
