I need to go get my 6 month prescription renewed next week again. So the doctor is going to make a few hundred bucks off me twice a year for the rest of my life?

Anyone been able to get a prescription renewal via the phone or email from doctor?

Nope, I always have to go in and get it renewed.

I do however take this time at the doctor to do all the usual check-up tests (BP, sugar levels, cholesterol, platelet count, etc) just to make sure everything else is 100%. With high BP my chances of getting diabetes is higher, so having that checked out every 6 months is a must.

Basically I make sure that I get my moneys worth when visiting the doctor, don't just renew the prescription...

I'm not a doctor... however...

130/80 is nothing to be worried about.

140/90 need to be monitored a bit more frequently.

If it goes over 140/90 for long periods of time, go see a doctor

BUT

if it is above 150/100, seek medical attention soonest.

If you are on medical aid (ours is basic hospital plan + some savings), your doctor should register you for chronic benefits. My 6mthly visits for BP monitoring + new script are covered. One of my BP meds is covered, the 2nd is partly covered. The (2nd) one I was on was covered, but had some side effects I didn't like.

If you are on medical aid (ours is basic hospital plan + some savings), your doctor should register you for chronic benefits. My 6mthly visits for BP monitoring + new script are covered. One of my BP meds is covered, the 2nd is partly covered. The (2nd) one I was on was covered, but had some side effects I didn't like.

My meds is paid for via chronic benefits.

Are you registered for BP as a chronic condition? If so, two (I think) visits a year should be covered under the prescribed minimum benefit legislation - at least that's what my GP told me, and what happens in my case.

My doctor, the day he diagnosed me, registered me as a chronic patient with my medical aid. Happens to be Discovery and was approved instantly. Now regardless of which plan we are on, I get 3 visits a year for free and the specific prescription I am on happens to be within the limit, so is paid 100% monthly out of chronic too.

I am with Discovery as well and get the same benefits as Tinuva above. DH doesn't cover all my current medication - the approved list is a bit restrictive, but maybe that's because of the plan we are on.

So the previous surgery I really did not go into here. The surgical procedure itself was successful, the outcome / prognosis not so much.

The last week I have had headaches every night and the slightest physical effort leaves me sweating - even in the cold in Cape Town today.
So the past few days have been updating my will, a set of instructions about certain things, & the DNR. This evening / tonight was spent in hospital with 2 blood thinning drips & a whole lot of scans.

*for those who have always intended getting a DNR drawn up, but never got around to it - help yourselves - personal info has been blanked out.

I have no intention of dropping dead, but figured this was a good time to get things in order.
I have only 1 wish if I land up going into cardiac arrest - please dear god, not in the fresh produce section at Spar while I'm choosing fruit - and not while I'm stalking a chicken

My super expensive Medica-Aid(Not Aidding-Too much money pumped into it to change) was complaing with SMS's about my original HB Prescription by a specialist after all the original ones by GP failed(3x tried nearly died), so Medical aid only paid 1/3 rd of it.
So few moths back on renewal I changed to a replacement one by GP suggested, he said its similar contents.
-So I did not like some side effects, less than I had with the original 3, so I used it for 6 Months, now on renewal I told GP, dont like this one, I rather want similar exact generic of the one I had no problems with, so now I am trying this one with similar name than the good one.....Lets see what happens(The GP acknowledges that the one he suggested 6 Months ago was indeed a totally different type the specialist prescribed back then).

Note: If I read the small print of the previous one to my utter shock, there was not a condition I could NOT die from...WTF.
