Blood Pressure...

At a crossroads.

So, I now have a very difficult choice to make: keep taking the drugs, and live (possibly) a little bit longer - but miserably. Or, stop taking them, possibly expire a little bit sooner - but at least get to feel ALIVE again while I’m doing it.
we are in a similar boat
the meds combination leaves me feeling continually fatigued and worn out.
having said that - the same combination has brought things largely under control from bp of 220/140 with a heart rate around 80 to 120 down to between 70 & 80.
so2 levels were also typically low at between 92 to 96, now 96 to 99 %.
so on one hand the meds are doing as designed and intended, but the constant lethargy has become a source of severe irritation.

i also seem to have developed chronic insomnia, which may be related to the ever present lethargy which perhaps is a cause of me not burning off enough energy during the day.

i have my main annual cardiac exam in a few days (although i have minor check ups every 3 months).
cardiologist is wanting me to be admitted for 2 days for regular tests + post testing 24hrs observation.

Think your history is way more severe than mine. Thing is, prior to having 4 widowmakers I literally had no clue what my BP or cholesterol numbers looked like. After my stent, I was just sent home with a bag of pills and told to try and have a good life, basically. The way I see it, what they put me on was effectively just for maintenance - the heart attack survivor starter pack, if you will - whereas yours seems to literally be saving your life based on what your numbers used to be. They know what the meds are meant to do, know they all have side effects, but just don’t care.

I’ve been off aspirin for over a month now because of my chance erosive gastritis diagnosis and also stopped the omeprazole because the IBS symptoms I endured for 3.5 years on the other PPI started again. As of yesterday, I’m also trialling being off my BP meds, because I think they had the most profound negative effect on everything so far. So, just the statins left, but that’s only half a tablet (2.5mg). To compensate for what the pills were doing, I’m on berberine, ginger, turmeric, garlic and cod liver oil specifically.

Half Candesartan:

BP is pretty much “safe” most of the time. Random days it’s just high, whether I’m on Candesartan or not. Diastolic is always on the high end, though, and even a full tablet has never dropped it. Isolated diastolic hypertension is always lifestyle, though, so need to sort out what I eat (I like sugar…), quit vaping and exercise more. Of course, when you feel like you barely have enough energy to make it through the day, the latter is pretty hard to even start.

Went to doc to get repeat prescription and he was happy with BP reading. Currently on co-zomovek and it needs bloody copayment so I asked him if alternative (cheaper that requires less/no copayment) and he put me on Adco-valsartan 80MG. Dischem didn't have supply so I will only get it from next month.

Anyone here on Adco-valsartan 80MG ?

Got a mail from Discovery that they are changing the pricing they pay for Hypertension medication. Reaptan 10/5 for R211 is too expensive for them they only cover R125 from January 2025. I need to switch to the generic for full cover...

My BP is a bit out of control at the moment. Working with the GP to change meds...

I've also managed to get myself into a clinical trial of this piece of magic

It's like a wrist HR monitor but it does blood pressure as well... no idea how, but at least I don't need to think too hard about keeping a BP diary for the doc.

Consensus is that wrist BP monitors aren’t nearly as accurate as arm cuffs, so interested to see your results.

Well claimed accuracy is +-5 mmHg.

The readings it's given so far are not far off what my Omron X7 gives.

It comes with a cuff as well that you use to calibrate it every so often.

Ah nice. Would make it easier to track changes throughout the day with a wrist band.

You can almost see the point where statins became the number one prescribed drug in the world.
Statins have jack to do with hypertension though? Or is there some link I'm not aware of?

Not a pretty picture. Waiting for the GP to contact me about reviewing the meds again. Device seems pretty good though!

apologies if I've missed the previous pages and if you've mentioned the below:
has your physician given you a coronary angiogram or even an echocardiogram by any chance?
