Hi

Mileage is 60,000km , service plan till 100,000km. I saw the vehicle this evening and it is VERY clean and very well looked after. I was quite surprised. Think it lived inside.

Are these good vehicles? I'd like to know if it's worth the money. R280k

I currently drive a Jetta 6 1.6Tdi DSG full house. That was R260k

The BMW is not a full house but does have leather interior and xenon lights.

I do have the full service history printout and it looks good. No major replacement parts and no accident history.

Thoughts?

Check up the guys on the bmwfanatics forums they should be able to give you some good feedback ;)

Just got a 320i in the same color with same rims :). Lots of power. The diesel should have even more. Paid about 10k less before adding smash n grab and fees.

You'll find the VW has a softer ride and is a lot quieter inside with regards to engine noise. (Had a Golf 6 and 7 before this - was nice but extremely unreliable) .

Just for using the word advice correctly; I give you rep :)

And thoughts on resale value? My wife is concerned that the resale value is not as good as VW and we should perhaps just get another Jetta instead

OP I'm not too well versed on their prices but I don't think you can go wrong and future value between this and a Jetta won't be worth consideration even.

However out of interest what's in the Jetta that makes it full house over this?

And would a similarly priced newer one offer more?

Might sound stupid but the sunroof and the heated seats on the Jetta I really like. Will have to get used to not having them

Sounds good, I'd say go for it. A mate of mine has the older E90 2010 320d, its on +100,000km and still going strong, despite all the abuse he gives it (drives it like its stolen).

BMWFanatics and Bimmerpost may help with e.g. any things to lookout for, give them a read.

Vw's do hold their value very well, polos and Golf's that is, jettas not as much.

Heated seats are amazing!
Why do you want to change from the Jetta?

I drive this model f30 and just reached 50000km and man is she a beaut. Mine is the sport model and has bigger rims but on the whole a great car. Fuel economy is great too... Beats my SO's Audi a4 2.0 Tdi on performance and fuel economy. I usually get 6.2l/100km in regular town driving.

I would highly recommend. Intent on driving mine beyond 100k km.

This.

You won't beat that DSG gearbox, also with the BMW you will only gain an extra 8kW and 10Nm of torque. The extra weight of the BMW will probably negate that fact.

You'll lose resale on the BMW, sunroof and all the other luxuries the Jetta has that the BMW hasn't got.

If you were upgrading from a Jetta 5 for instance I'd say go for it, but you won't be gaining much at all from side-stepping to the BMW (although still a great car).

The BMW 320d has 135kW and the Jetta 1.6TDI has 77kW, so I'm not sure where you got that figure from. Even the 2.0TDI Jetta is only a lacking 103kW. The BMW also has a much better interior.

The 8-speed gearbox on the BMW is excellent and you won't feel much loss between it and the DSG. Resale is also relatively decent as that engine is pretty desirable.

8kw?
Is the Jetta 127KW.
Resale, Jetta is not as good as a Polo.
Fuel efficiency, VW is not as good as they say.
We once drove from Jhb to Nelspruit, a 320i (135KW rear while drive much heavier car) vs Golf 7 (162KW) - on cruise control.
BMW returned 6l/100km, GTI 7l/100km
