You need to find a new tyre shop then. For the equivalent brand, model and size, RF vs non-RF, you're paying 40-50% more for the RF.

There wont be any truth. You need to go with your subjective "truth" in this case, as you yourself cannot even give a logical reason for wanting to switch, and even suggest you will miss the VW.

The only thing I will suggest is that the BMW you are talking about seems a bit overpriced, but that's what I'd expect for a used anything via a VW dealer. Maybe go drive it, and if it steals your heart, shop for a better deal.

They can definitely be repaired but there is one significant drawback to a BMW that comes stock with runflats, if you use normal tyres and the vehicle is still under motor plan it voids the drive train warranty, eeish.

If you end up putting non-RF tyres on your car, you should be buying a repair or spare wheel kit, the cost of which comes close to the difference in price between RF and non-RF tyres. In the grand scheme of things, it really isn't a massive overhead.
 
Note that you will be getting a relatively short period of motor plan, maximum 2 years.

Better than what the Audi and Merc came up with. Apparently they use some company that focus only on gearboxes and its working well for them.

I did notice when driving that the shifted was very quick and quiet even though not DSG. I am used to that seamless shift :)

Absolutely. When choosing my car with the ZF 8-speed gearbox, I also test drove the Golf R and Audi S3. My opinion, the 8-speed won hands down.

Disagree. Very happy with the ride from my RF's, and I made very sure that they could be repaired before I bought my car. And again, the security of RF's and not having to stop on the side of the road in today's rather lawless SA is something that should not be underestimated.

That does sound like a very good price. I expect to pay about R3.3k per tyre. Then again, my OPC was 2k plus a few years ago - when the rand was about R8/9 to the $.
 
R4k per runflat? What brand is he putting on?

I paid R1 500 per runflat and I have 225x45x17 Michelins on.
 
Thanks for all the replies and advice. I went with the car. They doing smash n grab today, and sorting out a few small chips here and there.

Definitely going to be calling some tyre places to get prices
