Manhart Give BMW M850i 621 HP (463 KW) And Mean Presence

Manhart Performance teased their BMW M850i last year but now we have the full details and images of their MH8 600 program and its promising.

As the title states it is based on the M850i xDrive model but as you can see has been given a little cosmetic overhaul. The kit starts off with a new set of shoes as the standard wheels have been replaced by the tuner’s 21-inch matte black alloys with a six double-spoke design. It has also been lowered by approximately 30 mm courtesy of an H&R set of springs adding to the meaner stance and presence.

Minor changes were made to the bodywork by applying an assortment of carbon fibre accents noticeable at the front splitter as well as at the back for the diffuser and custom spoiler lip. The side mirror caps have also been bathed in carbon, while gold body graphics further denote this isn’t a stock BMW.

This upgraded BMW M850i boasts M8 Competition-beating power!

At the end of 2018, German firm Manhart Performance revealed a rendering of its BMW M850i coupé-based MH8 600 grand tourer. Now the company has lifted the wraps off the real deal, which sports lowered suspension and larger wheels ... and packs M8 Competition-beating power.

As the “600” in its name suggests, the modified M850i (seen here wearing the tuner’s signature gold-coloured decals) produces plenty of horsepower (621, to be exact). This figure translates to a whopping 463 kW ... and that's 3 kW than the halo M8 Competition churns out (as well as 22 kW more than the standard M8).

In addition, the standard 4,4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine has been injected with an extra 100 N.m of torque. The Manhart-tuned M850i thus sends 850 N.m to all four corners via the Bavarian automaker’s clever (rear-biased) M xDrive four-wheel-drive system.

New BMW 8 Series Gran Coupé: pricing for South Africa revealed!

BMW South Africa has released pricing for its new 8 Series Gran Coupé range, which is scheduled to hit local roads in November 2019.

The local four-door line-up will comprise three variants at launch.

The base model will be the 840i Gran Coupé, employing a turbocharged 3,0-litre inline-six petrol engine delivering 250 kW and 500 N.m to the rear axle via an eight-speed automatic transmission. The price of this derivative will start at R1 377 590, with the 0-100 km/h time coming in at a claimed 5,2 seconds.

Next is the 840d xDrive Gran Coupé, which generates 235 kW and 680 N.m courtesy of a 3,0-litre inline-six turbodiesel. Priced from R1 462 916, the sole oil-burning model sends drive to all four corners, hitting three figures in a claimed 5,1 seconds.

The flagship variant (before the inevitable reveal of the M8 Gran Coupé, that is) is the M850i xDrive Gran Coupé, which makes use of the Munich-based firm’s familiar turbocharged 4,4-litre V8 petrol engine. With 390 kW and 750 N.m directed to all wheels, the M850i will reach 100 km/h from standstill in a claimed 3,9 seconds (two-tenths slower than the coupé version). It starts at R1 843 112, which, by our maths, interestingly makes it some R44 715 less expensive than the coupé.

BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe 840i sDrive 2019 review

Should I buy one?

It is not hard to make a case for the 8 Series Gran Coupé. On breadth of ability alone, it should be on the list of anyone in the market for a luxurious four-door. However, the premium brand competition includes some accomplished offerings that can’t be ignored.

In 840i sDrive guise, its biggest attraction is the engaging sixcylinder engine and compelling handling. It’s no hot rod, granted, but this might just be the best balanced of all the new 8 Series models yet.

BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe Price Announced

The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe has been revealed and will arrive in South Africa in Q4 of 2019! Take a look at what this striking vehicle has to offer and how much it costs...

The BMW 8 Series is available in coupe and convertible versions, with an assortment of engines to choose from. The range has now been bolstered with the addition of a 4-door Gran Coupe which is due to make its worldwide launch in September 2019.

DRIVEN: BMW 840i sDrive Gran Coupé Steptronic

The 8 Series Gran Coupé is a worthwhile evolution of the F06 6 Series and blends the brand’s modern design language into a distinctive product. Up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Audi A7 Sportback, the neatly balanced packaging and less aggressive tuning of the 840i (compared with the 850i and M8 derivatives) make for a compelling package likely to find favour with those not quite ready to settle into the altogether more conservative 5 Series family.

Driven: 8 Series Gran Coupe is the grandest of them all

The ride quality is outstanding as is build quality, and with an almost silent cabin a long distance drive at speed is what this car is made for.

Move the setting to Adaptive and the car shifts the driving parameters to suit your driving style, so if you’re belting through curvy mountain passes it increases throttle response and holds the gears for a longer time and when you’re back on the highway it will settle down as a cruiser again.

As you would expect an array of driver assistance systems abound with driving assistant, collision and pedestrian warning with city braking function, lane departure and changing warning, speed limit info and rear crossing traffic and rear collision warning.

BMW says the Gran Coupe is likely to make up 50% of all 8 Series sales worldwide and while the two-door Coupe definitely has a serious cool factor going for it, the practicality, space and similar figures make this the better buy and without having driven it, I think the diesel version as an all-rounder would be the one to go for.

BMW M850i xDrive coupé handed M8 Competition-beating power upgrade!

German tuner McChip-DKR has revealed its first stage in performance upgrades for the G15-generation BMW 8 Series, handing the M850i coupé derivative M8-beating power.

As standard, the M850i xDrive coupé’s 4,4-litre V8 sends 390 kW and 750 N.m of torque (the latter from a low 1 800 r/min) to all four corners via BMW’s eight-speed Steptronic transmission. However, after receiving some attention from the Mechernich-based firm, the twin-turbo petrol engine churns out a whopping 478 kW and 850 N.m. That’s 18 kW and 100 N.m more than the M8 Competition, which we've already sampled in Portugal.

McChip-DKR says the modified M850i xDrive coupé is capable of achieving a top speed of 300 km/h, 50 km/h more than the (governed) figure of the model it is based on and 5 km/h less than the halo 8 Series’ maximum speed.

BMW 8 Series 840d xDrive Gran Coupe 2019 UK review

Should I buy one?

It’s certainly not a straightforward recommendation to contemplate. In some ways, this 8 Series would fit into your daily motoring better than any other. You could use it like a 5 Series, get comparable daily fuel economy and practicality out of it, and make your motorway miles quite a lot more special by the substitution.

To look at it another way, though, this car would be a pretty plain-looking and clinical way to replace a more traditional, beautiful, exotic GT coupé. While it’s very dynamically competent, it’s not soulful or particularly enticing to drive; while it’s lovely to be in, it’s not that lovely to look at; and while it’s practical and pragmatic enough, it doesn’t cosset or cocoon you like the very best luxury cars of its size and price.

The BMW 840d xDrive Gran Coupe is, in short, an unusually rational car in a part of the motoring landscape where they’re not generally called for, yet it doesn’t quite get over the line in rational terms alone. Moreover, its few attempts at reaching out on an emotional level as often fall flat as hit home. It’s good in parts, clearly – but still probably not the 8 Series most would want.

Tested: BMW M850i Coupe is an all-in-one package built for speed

Everything about the car screams “drive me”, and I reckon you’ll need your lawyer on speed dial if you intend to use even half the power at your disposal.

For its size, the M850i Coupé never feels out of sorts. It remains well balanced even under extreme acceleration and cornering, testimony to the M engineers, rear wheel steering and a variable-ratio steering set-up.

In Sport and Sport+ mode steering and throttle response is more direct, made smile-inducing by the piped and real exhaust notes.

It’s the kind of car where you’d want to throw two overnight bags into the big sloping boot and head to Mpumalanga to drive the long open roads with their variety of hairpins, gentle curves and beautiful views. The kids (unless they’re small) will have to stay behind because legroom at the back is at a premium.

The BMW M850i Coupé is striking in every way including price, at just under R2 million.

While there are quicker and more agile options, this particular Coupé must rate as one of the most complete packages in the market.

Individual Verde Mantis BMW M850i Has Bright Red Interior

The BMW Individual program allows owners to spec their Bimmers in pretty much any colour they desire to match their personalities and tastes.

Not too many owners opt for the vivid Lamborghini green hue known as Verde Mantis and almost none combine it with the bright red leather interior option.

A customer in the United States decided that their M850i xDrive needed to have these two colour options and the result is what you see here.
