BMW Car Advice

Have you been having problems with the car the last 2 years? If no, why are you paranoid about high maintenance costs within the next year or 10k km?

No nothing much. But that's my worry, something can very easily go and you will be R20k in the red. Unlikely, but very possible.

Past performance is not an indicator of future performance.

Do you have personal experience with this? Do claims get rejected easily and which plan is advised?

I have the 2nd plan from the top on my wife's car. SEAT Leon TDI

It went in for the following, all in one go:
Water leak
CV boot torn
Noise from front wheel

The leak was repaired
the CV joint and boot were replaced
Wheel bearing was replaced.

I had to pay in about a grand. Total repair cost was somewhere around 12k

Dealer remarked on how easy it had been for them to get approval.

Got the quote from them. They have 4 different plans. 2 of the higher tiers even help out with services. Its still quite pricey, but I think I will go with the "Cruise" option. Its just over R450 pm and covers most things.

Glad to hear they pay out!

i've had sa warranties and motor extender.
both good. sa warranties marginally better when claiming hollard easier on the pocket.

the 320 at that mileage should not give you sleepless nights though..

5. Keep it and stop panicking.

Take it to an independent specialist mechanic after it runs out and pay for services like a normal person.

Ha ha. I know but I had an Audi that was still in motor plan and the gearbox electronics went and it cost R16k to fix. Want to rather be safe than sorry!

Anything less than the top tier seems too low for a dealer maintained BMW.

I would choose option 1, put some extra money away and take your chances.

That was at Audi though with their inflated pricing...

An independent specialist could have done it for a whole lot less and you would still have money left from the 21k you are volunteering for a year only.

12k is a damned ripoff for that work.

cv joint is about 4k
Wheel bearing - they do the whole hub as well.
There was also a broken coolant flange on the head.

This is at the agent.

Cool thanks, I have an independent mechanic but sometimes I can't afford to sit without a car.

If I was you I would keep the car and put some money away for repairs.
That petrol engine is quite good and it should last.

Just make sure that services are done on time and that any issues are attended straight away.

The 320i motor is very decent ,should be cheap to maintain until 200k or so.

I would be worried if you have the auto box that can be costly to repair if it fails. Make sure your gearbox is maintained correctly if have the automatic.

E90 320I is very popular car so plenty of parts going around to fix it up if something goes wrong ,I would say take the risk and add the extra 2k to your bond each month.

This exactly. Its what I do with mine, the mechanics are BMW only so they really know the card but dont charge a fortune.
