German tuner AC Schnitzer loves to add presence and power to the Bavarian machines especially those that carry the Competition badge.

BMW Abu Dhabi Motors recently took delivery of a Toronto Red X4 M Competition complete with the full AC Schnitzer package.

The visual upgrades start at the front with an aero front bumper splitter painted to match the body. Moving to the back, you can immediately spot the aggressive rear roof-spoiler and the trunk lip which gives it a more purposeful profile.

Completing the upgrades is a set of the AC Schnitzer suspension to drop the ride height slightly and improve handling.

REVIEW | The BMW X3 M Competition is impressive, but you can't have your yin without the yang

But? I sense a 'but'…

The BMW X3 M Competition is a damn fast machine, and it hurls towards the horizon in an emphatic fashion. But while fast, it's just too precise. Too perfect. While some might prefer it that way, others (like me) would prefer an SUV such as this to have a bit of a wild side. The numbers are impressive and the technologies on point, but in the rush of it all did the X3 M Competition become a bit… soft?

There is very little to suggest that this X3 M Competition will fail in life and that it will not succeed at its task, but the prospective owner who knows what they are buying into will not regret the purchase for a single moment. This Beemer is rewarding to drive, it's a force to be reckoned with if you're into scaring pretenders at traffic lights, and it will leave you with a smile all the time.

It will come down to personal preference, but the X3 M Competition is a logical choice in a sea of sports SUVs.

His words & all i know was at high temp bmw have been getting some reports of engine knock problems.

Tested: BMW X3 M Competition is fast, fun and practical too

As you would expect there's a long list of safety features to keep you cocooned if things should go awry unlike your wallet when it comes to keeping it fuelled.

BMW claims an average of 10.6l/100km, which I think all sales people say when you ask about any car's consumption, but we managed an almost respectable 15.3l/100km given that delightful exhaust rumble, easy accelerating engine and Sport mode.

However, at R1 641 162 it's safe to say that the owner isn't strapped for cash so in this case consumption is moot. Throw in a few nice to have extras and it easily touches R1.8 million.

So, it's an expensive purchase any way you look at it, but not out of sync with the competition and as a fun to drive, spacious, fast and comfortable family vehicle, the BMW X3 M Competition is one of the most accomplished in the segment.

Included in the price is a two year unlimited mileage warranty and a five-year 100 000km maintenance plan.

I had this done today Tun@. The new map feels great around town, response is much improved.

I also got my tramlining issue resolved - they retorqued most of the front suspension and the tech claimed that the wider software update they applied today also changed the steering gearing/weighting, but that's probably bollocks.

The most powerful BMW in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine with a peak output of 375 kW/510 hp - now also used in other BMW M models - has a maximum torque which has been increased by 50 Nm to 650 Nm, enabling a 0.3-second improvement in the time required for the standard sprint from 0 to 100 km/h to 3.8 seconds. This puts the BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition on a par with high-performance sports cars. The top speed is electronically cut off at 250 km/h. This limit is raised to 285 km/h in conjunction with the optional M Driver's Package. The market launch of the new models is due to start in August 2021.

Refreshed BMW X3 M Competition And X4 M Competition Revealed

It is time for the baby M SUV’s to be refreshed and here are the results. Both lineups have been given an overhaul in the design department while adding new technologies, more performance and extra features.

The headline news is that despite delivering no extra power from the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder petrol engine, the 503 hp (375 kW) X3 M Competition and X4 M Competition duo produce 650 Nm which is 50 Nm more than before. This extra pulling power has improved performance as both are capable of a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of 3.8 seconds, a substantial 0.3 seconds than the previous model.

This extra torque comes in early and that is thanks to the new forged lightweight crankshaft from the M3 and M4 models as well as a new cylinder head that’s claimed to reduce weight and internal friction. Finishing the engine upgrades is a new intercooler for the turbos, a revised wastegate, an optimised injection system and variable valve control.

If for some reason you are doing a fair bit of track driving, do not fret as the M engineers have added a third engine oil cooling system and a separate transmission oil cooler to manage the spikes in temperature associated with track driving. The pair also receive a new standard variable M Sports exhaust that’s claimed to inject a ‘motor racing touch’ into the driving experience at high engine revs.
