Have to say, while I absolutely do not applaud BMW on their more recent design choices/styling, this thing does look pretty menacing.
It's so out there that you cannot help but look at it and think...what the actual..... ?
I kinda like it for it's complete absurdness, though cannot see how it's relevant given the state of the world.
Surely BMW had other options for their "ultimate" M car.
To me, nothing about this says, I've made a wise decision....more, look at me, I have way too much money and little to no taste.
Basically it's bragging rights.

Think BMW’s “standard” 480 kW XM could do with even more oomph? Well, you’re in luck: the new BMW XM Label Red – which is the most powerful road-legal M model yet – has been confirmed for South Africa.

As a reminder, the standard XM is the M division’s first high-performance vehicle featuring an electrified drive system, here comprising a “high-revving” twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine and an electric motor integrated into the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission. Total hybrid system outputs stand at a lofty 480 kW and 800 Nm.

And the mighty XM Red Label? Well, the fresh flagship version pushes those maximum outputs to a whopping 550 kW and 1 000 Nm (respective increases of 70 kW and 200 Nm). That renders it the most powerful BMW M model ever made and also means it boasts more oomph than the likes of the 490 kW/850 Nm Lamborghini Urus Performante and the 520 kW/900 Nm Aston Martin DBX707.

BMW Group South Africa says the all-wheel-drive XM Label Red has been “confirmed” for a local introduction, but the company has yet to reveal exactly when we can expect the Spartanburg-built flagship SUV variant to touch down. Pricing, too, is still to be announced, though the 550 kW version will surely command quite a premium over the R3.4-million 480 kW XM.

550kW XM Red Label is the most potent production BMW ever

Love it or loathe it, the new BMW XM Red Label is large and in charge, and it also happens to be the Bavarian carmaker’s most powerful production model ever.

The Red Label is the flagship version of the new BMW XM that was revealed to the world last year, and global production will be limited to just 500 units. Some of these have been allocated to South Africa, although launch timing and other local details have yet to be released.

Featuring a hybrid drivetrain that pairs a twin-turbo V8 petrol engine to an electric motor for system outputs of 550kW and 1 000Nm, the Red Label is significantly perkier than the standard XM, whose similar hybrid powertrain produces 480kW and 800Nm.

Power goes to all four wheels through an eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox, which also incorporates the 145kW electric motor, and an M-tuned xDrive all-wheel drive system.

When everything is working in pedal-mashing harmony, the BMW XM Red Label will sprint from 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds, the company claims, making it half a second quicker than the regular XM. The top speed is 290km/h in cars fitted with the M Driver’s Package, which will feature as standard in South African cars.

The BMW XM Label Red has been confirmed in South Africa.

We knew it was coming but now it is official and the BMW XM Label Red takes the title of the most powerful BMW ever made.

The standard XM offering ‘only’ packs 644 hp (480 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque but the Label Red cranks things up to a whopping 738 hp (550 kW) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque. The uprated S68 engine works together with an electric motor built into the eight-speed automatic transmission and sends power to the clever xDrive system.

The improved build-up of power resulting from the pre-gearing stage between the electric motor’s rotor and the transmission’s input shaft means the BMW XM Label Red needs just 3.8 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h. Its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h but rises to 290 km/h on cars with the M Driver’s Package, which will be standard issue on models sold in South Africa.

Cosmetically you will notice the Label Red thanks to the plethora of Toronto Red accents both outside and in. In addition, the XM badges are also red, and so are the brake calipers.
