Board Games

Ive heard mixed reports about 7 wonders and really good things about 7 wonders duel so its on my radar.

I generally try to keep theme and game from one another but with Wingspan I have a huge disconnect from the bird theme and I'm not sure why.
duel is the 2 player version. I think the issue some people have with 7 wonders is that the wonder you get has big influnce on the game, luck with cards, and that you have no real way to impact players 2 away from you. So from 5-7 players (or 4 but easier to keep tabs on 3 peoples strategy) have no way to beat them or affect them, so i think 4th player or max 5 is best for the game and not 6 or 7.

winspan is just a bird themed but also not really negative play style, so good for kids or people that dont like being picked on (thinking of your robber in Catan)

If you like complicated, perhaps try Agricola, hear its fun, but quite strategic, and lots to keep track of. not everyones cup of tea

I have access to Caverna and Patchwork which are from the same designer as Agricola but I haven't managed to put them on the table just yet. I believe Caverna is the big brother of Agricola and will soonish (after many hours of Gloomhaven) will be playing it.

First actual mission of Gloomhaven done. My So died and I manged to clinch it with 1hp so a success!

I understand why this is ranked number 1 on BGG what a cool game and it is fluid in play, unlike others of the same genre I have played.

We started setting up for the next mission......36 mins later it was time for bed, which is my only gripe.

Where did you get it from?

I ordered https://raru.co.za/boards-dice/7788756-folded-space-board-game-box-insert-gloomhaven this one but have a 30 day wait and its not as nice or cheap as that one.
We got someone to lasercut it. 0828555478(I don't know his name) - he's in Douglasdale

Yeah, it's an amazing game, we love it. With the inserts it should technically reduce the setup time significantly. We haven't actually managed to play yet since getting the inserts

Arkham horror, eldritch horror, pathfinder adventure card game, heroes of terinoth, death angel

Played Brass Birmingham for a second time on Saturday this time 4 player and ordered a copy straight afterwards.

I think I have to change my score to a 9.5 it really is an incredible experience.

Twilight Imperium 4th Edition. Thee most epic of epic board games!

try 7 wonders -really good (3 rounds card choice)
New game for the twitchers - Winspan (engen building)

Shout out to Exp kittens /CAH / Caracasonne / codenames/ Ticket to Ride EU/ Catan C&K
2 player - star realms/ pandemic

I gave wingspan a go, it is a really nice game and production quality is beautiful (even the book is made of wedding invitation paper).

Pros: The game is fun, setup is rather quick and rules are easy to learn. Good game to have in the collection to take people from an easy game like Splendor/Tokaido into medium weight game.

Cons: The engine building aspect is based on luck and the win condition is basically how many eggs you have so there isn't much variation.

Solid 7/10

I played Kanban EV as a second game this weekend.

This is the heaviest game I have played and to be honest the first play through I had no idea what I was doing from start to finish but we had 3 play throughs so I eventually caught on.

The game is beautiful but I think the design made it difficult to differentiate between the departments which made it confusing this lead to everyone not really knowing if the decision they had made had payed off on the first play. This made the game sticky and unenjoyable with a massive learning curve (The winning points in game one were 68 and in game two were 135 just show the difference).

Once everyone knew what was happening the game flowed nicely and I completely changed my opinion on it, moving between departments at the right time and stealing cars other people had pushed out all while "Sandra" tries to take away my points was exciting.

Game one I gave it a 5/10 and by game 3 it became one of my favorites and gave it a 9/10.

thanks for the review. yeah simple mechanics and there is two (or 4) over-powered cards in base game that can guarantee a win if played in the 1st round. look up - the problems with ravens
There are two add ons to the game, EU and Australisia, I think they have tried to balance the game more and move away from a last few turns of egg laying.
I think its a fun family game, or dont think too much pretty picture game

Anyone play Marvel Champions: The Card Game. It's a living card game. Fantasy Flight Games are the maker.

Ahh, love Marvel Champions. She-Hulk and Black Panther are my favourites from the pack we played

A game that's always gotten my interest is China Town but it's an old game and out of print. So finding a copy that doesn't involve robbing a bank or selling your soul is near impossible. The bartering aspect gets my interest. Anything similar that can be suggested?
