bonus any one ?

i have 2 companies
i give my staff a "13th cheque", but it is not part of their renumeration package in terms of employment contract.
the "13th cheque" is paid by company "a" to employees of company "b", & vice versa

the amount is rounded up so it does not equate to the exact amount as per regular salary eft payments & is paid in 2 halves - 1st week of dec & 3rd week of december.

17% of my CTC, and then get taxed like a mofo!
Still, free money, so can't complain :-)

Usually get 20 - 30% of annual salary however financials are down - will only know in Feb anyway

No bonus this December. We get a performance based payment in June.
However this year it appears that we are already in zero bonus territory and hence expectations for next june are low.

Now off topic slightly:
Anyone know how the "13th cheque" was thought up.
This is my thinking (which may be flawed)

Employees generally get paid once a calendar month. So that is 12 cheques of same value per year. But some months have 4 weeks and some have 5 weeks. So an employee is getting paid the same amount for a 4 week month and a 5 week month.
To make up for this, a 13th cheque balances out the previous 12 monthly salary payments.
Which effectively means that an employee is getting a salary cheque for every 4 weeks of work effort.

But then what happens when a company tells it's employees that a 13th cheque is subject to management discretion and does not pay the 13th cheque. Then does it mean that the employees worked 4 weeks for free? Or maybe already factored into the 12 salary payments?

Anyway, enjoy the festive season if you got a bonus. And if you didn't get a bonus, go ask you manager about those 4 weeks that you worked and not getting paid for.

Only just moved jobs (Sep) so no November payout for me.
My subordinates mainly got around a 13th cheque

Bonus came to 25% of CTC - what I was expecting. I need to move if I want better - a move that is long overdue.

PS: I think our 10 year award is a half Kruger Rand.

I'll pay myself an extra 5k this year end.
