Boosting MWEB's uncapped ADSL performance

Well lucky you, i had a run in with them, for using my uncapped account like an uncapped account, i thought i could, they had an issue. In all fairness i did do 400+ gigs in 15 odd days, but i did check with The Mweb Guy before that about how much data i could do and i was told as long as i don't bypass..... so yeah, lesson learnt the hard way

Could you elaborate on what you did? :)

How about dropping your prices instead of trying to convince everyone you're the shizniz for a change.

Because gold costs more than lead.

The price difference is marginal with ISP's. The value difference is huge.

The problem now is Telkom.

+1 to all the Mweb love for offering a service worth the pricetag.

Haters: don't like the price, go with the competition. I've been there and done that. Mweb is worth the premium.

Thanks for the positive feedback on this one, I for one am really glad that our boys got this tick into the box. Those of you who have been with us since the beginning of uncapped will remember the bugbears we had with things like Apple updates which are now very much be a thing of the past :D

Also just something to note for those expressing the opinion that we are perhaps deploying these systems to justify pricing it needs to be understood that putting these CDN links in place is not something that happens overnight.

These are the culmination of projects that took a lot of negotiation, infrastructure build and hard work from our engineers over many months and some of these have been on our roadmap since we began the network build, because we have always had a very clear idea that these were requirements to deliver a truly world class broadband experience :)

Better local CND and Cloud is the way to go. The end.

And how do i get access to this local servers?

Good question :) The answer is seamlessly - all you have to do is make sure you're using our automatically assigned DNS servers as CDN redirection is done at a DNS level.

How this then works is that Apple for example will have a distribution agreement with Akamai so when you download the latest IOS for your iPhone, or iPad your download will be served from the Akamai cloud, which will find the nearest Akamai node able to service it.

As you're an MWEB Subscriber this will now be right on your doorstep :)

The Mweb AUP is just as bad if not worse than those other FUPs, at least with the others you have some kind of benchmark

as mentioned by a few guys, don't cheat the FUP and you won't have issues - I burn a MASSIVE amount of bandwidth and they (MWEB) don't give me any issues.

Though I'm still a little grumbly about the 2mbps price, I will still always recommend MWEB.

If everything stays as is, I'm happy to be their customer, performance has been just stellar for me of late.

I stuck to the 1Mbps account when my line was upgraded to 2Mbps, getting close to 2Mbps performance quite a lot except on speedtests where MWEB throttle it DOWN to 1mbps:confused: So for all intensive purposes I am paying R199 for a 2Mbps uncapped account:)

I'm very intrigued by AfriHost's prices but I've been burnt before and I'm not sure if I want to go through with it all over again AND have the schlepp of unbundling the circuit etc.

+1

Hi Bern

Glad to hear your MWEB account is working nicely for you. Would just like you to know, MWEB does not Throttle :-)

You do on mine, but only when I run a speedtest and down to the speed I am actually paying for, so no problem there. What I was pointing out is some ISPs may set their networks to allow better than normal performance to speedtest servers, while on MWEB speedtest was actually slower than real life usage. Plus points for MWEB on this (delivering more than you promise)!!

Ahhh i so loove Mweb.
Best brand in the country at the moment for sure.

Ive been with other well known ISPs on unshaped before.
Mweb SHAPED uncapped has lower latency than these other jokers.

Go Mweb.

All Mweb need to do now is shift to WACS, and give their 4Mbps uncapped accounts a free upgrade to 'up-to' 10Mbps =D

Good work, next time seacom fails we'll at least have most data cached locally...
