Do you think it's possible to boot from a digital camera?

I don't see why not, I can copy anything to it, using it as a storage device, but I wonder if anyone has tried this before?

I want to try installing Ubuntu Studio from USB on my DigiCam.

Why?

Should be possible - although I'll prefer to use an USB memory stick instead of a bulky camera :)

hehe... I also ask why?

Just because you can does not mean you have to!

I am sure I could store around a hundred MP3s on my Camera's memory stick... but why?

Well i've seen USB Card readers (that are ruffly the same size as USB Flash drives)

But obviously you can insert a SD-Micro or Mini SD, or standard size SD card in it (although you buy the reader usually with the card)

So you can basically just insert a 2gig or 4gig or 8gig SD card

Not sure if you can. I know that if you tried it with a phone it wont work because of the two different modes that the phone offers over USB.

Biggest flash disk I have access to is only 512mb, for my camera I have a 1gb mem stick.

The Ubuntu Studio ISO is 801mb so it wont fit on my flash disk (read, USB flash mp3 player with the LCD screen and controls broken )

Guess I'll just have to try it and see...

It is pretty easy to boot XP from a USB memory stick. You even get those little ones up to 2Gb. Just need a bootsector on the device

You can boot a basic DOS very easy as well and with a much smaller storage size

I am sure that you could also boot a basic Linux CLI as well

Just make sure to set up the BIOS correctly

It's fun trying all these different things -- if you do not mind the possiblilty of digging yourself into a hole you might not get out of :D
