Bought car without papers

Why will they impound the vehicle? I have been stopped before and they just gave a fine that I did not pay. They can`t impound cars for expired licenses.
License disk has a number, that can be scanned showing continous non payment and impound or worse if the original owner reports stolen. If you show no disk, they can impound because of no vehicle license and not knowing roadworthy.

But go ahead, drive like a fool and insurance as well.

Go ahead and pay your corrupt ANC its taxes, I pay enough tax. I`m not going to pay another R600 per year to the ANC to have a car. I am willing to pay R20 but its too late now, their penalties system is preventing me from re-entering their system. It is highly unlikely that I will ever be stopped because I don`t use the car much. I asked the insurance and they will still pay out for a car with expired license.

If you own the car, not in ops case.

Looks like someone is going to run out of country very soon, where are you planning to live to avoid these corrupt ANC taxes?

Pro tip, if you ever get stopped don't post under your current username, change it so that we can't tell it's you.

Don`t worry about me bro, I can easily avoid all ANC tax if I want to, and I probably will soon. Rather worry about yourself, your weak mental state ANC blindness shows your anchor to this shyth0le.

all what the current owner (the real title holder) has to do is go to a police station and say his car is stolen.. then if they locate it they'll return it and there is the "money he is owed" he can then sell the car again, and you are left with zero and probably a criminal record for buying stolen goods.

don't ever buy a car without papers, were you on meth?

actually wait I'm silly, meet me in the Checkers parking lot, pick any car and just give me R10,000 and you can drive off in it, same same.

You haven’t “bought” anything without the papers.

Therefore you’ll need to deal with the original owner since you are technically in possession of his stolen car now.

What to do (friend who runs a panel beater works says he has done this 3 times)

Get SAPS clearance
Obtain a roadworthy certificate
Proof of payment from the last seller
Prepare an affidavit saying the papers are lost and get it stamped at the SAPS
Pay for a duplicate reg document
Apply for a change of ownership

In Cape Town, he has done this at the Plumstead municipal office succesfully
And if the original owner wised up before you pull this stunt, no SAPS clearance would be issued.

How much is still owed to the original owner?

There's something that all insurers have to abide by and it's the law of insurable interest. Very difficult to prove in your case.

Insurance will pay without license up to date after you have brought it up to date (but with covid there are temporary amendments)

Insurance will not settle a total loss without first getting the original e-natis documents.

Good luck with insurance and don't come bleeting insurance are crooks when one of the above hinders claims.

Has the original owner laid a case of theft?

If yes then you are in possession of stolen property and could be charged.
If not then the story probably goes a lot deeper.

Shouldn't have bought the vehicle IMO

Did you get that in writing from your insurance and have all the insurances of other parties which you involved in said accident also agreed to this?

Have they definited what "expired licence means". What it means to them most likely is this : "o **** sorry, I didn't realise it has expired last month already" and not "license and legal cars are for sussies"

But do drive around, I'm sure someone causing an at fault accident but has more money for better lawyers would have a field day with you.

Yes I am no angel, I touch and go, 60 is merely a guide depending on how busy the road is / late I am. But some things are better not to leave yourself open to.

The vehicle registration document is car papers.

If you got that you got the papers.

Besides corrupt activities I don't know how he is going to pull that off, the car is still in the name of the original owner, how does a stranger just rock up and tell the officials that he has lost the papers of the car that does not belong to him?

OK so lets say you are driving a car that is not yours ....

1: Accident ... If you do not have the car on your insurance with the Registered owner ( not you ) as the owner then yourself as the registered driver then they will not pay out at all in a major accident . Neither the other person involved or yourself. You will be liable for both parties costs. They may also go after the owner of the vehicle and then all he has to do is say it was stolen and then you have other crap.

2: Fines. ... I am not talking about the camera fines. The fines that get written on the side of the road. If you do not action these then they will end up in a warrant of arrest. If you still ignore then you can get arrested and you will get a criminal record.

3: IN both the above you can look at a impounded car and then you have nothing. Actually at the moment you have nothing anyway.

4: If you do get registration papers fraudulantly, then all the owner has to do is lay a charge of fraud and then you are f....

I would take the car back to whoever you bought it from and demand your money back.
Buying a car like this si just stupid.... I have a bridge to sell .. Interested ??
