Boycott 2010 World Cup

Yes, I do.

New SA 101. The general idea behind the ‘rainbow nation’ concept was for the ‘previously advantaged’ to take a hit (inevitably) on 1st world standards but to **raise** the black populations standards up to a 2.5 world standard. Instead the blacks **lowered** standards to meet their 5th world standard. The idea amongst many was the raising of standards, not the reverse (squalor). Zimbabwe looms on the horizon.

I am reminded of the first couple of lines from a poem by Dylan Thomas (it’s about death).

“Go not gently into that dark night,
Rage! Rage! Against the dying of the light…”

Dark night = savagery, “Heart of Darkness”, etc.
Light = standards, competence, etc.

Rather than bluffing myself about how ‘wonderful’ everything is, I have resolved to go down fighting (and I **will** go down – there is little hope). My children will be out of the hellhole, my wife is involved in her own projects (besides, her mother is here – getting between a wife and her mother is an unwinnable battle). Gives meaning to my old age?

SA's drinking water in the major cities is safe. Rand Water for instance is still rated as top 5 in the world, and they're stil investing millions in infrustructure - the Western Cape included. so saying the entire system is collapsing is BS. Smaller municipalities in the rural areas are suffering.

It still does not make it oke for the rest not to have the same standards.

Next year you will pay my farking taxes if you do this. I have never heard of smaller selfish people.!!!

FFS!!! Why would you want to make this flop. So that you can be taxed to death and starve loose your house.
But hey!!!!! wait you will be able to say:

I TOLD YOU SO.

Guess what not on MBB. You will not be able to afford it.

LOL!
I did not make that video. I only showed you that indeed there are resistance to the world cup. None of the factual info on that video can be questioned.
That is the reality we live in. There is no point in lying to the visitors. Why would anyone misrepresent the facts of what is going on?

Still stupid. And I would rather campaign to close it than show support.

+10 000

I agree we need to do something about the water. But seriously 2 000 idiots is not going to derail the WC. Lock them up for the duration of the cup. Bann them like the soccer hooligans..
Lock us up? LOL!
Did this country deteriorate into a police state whilst i was gone? LOL!
They may lock us up, but you cannot pretend that we are not here. We are.

Oh now WE are...Decide...oh wait yes that is the problem.

Cut your nose to spite your face.
In the eighties blacks had nothing to loose. We all know how they went to the streets then. Now we have nothing to loose. Did you know that out there, there are 300 000 white Afrikaans unemployed males ? I can assure you they are not happy about it. Lots of fertile ground for revolution.
Most of those males had military training. Not good.

Yes, our government is mostly reactive instead of being proactive. Being proactive means (a). continual maintenance of existing infrastructure and (b). early planning/execution of future infrastructural needs.

Pity. I hope we get to a point where they realise making electricity is easier than making water.

This thread is an epic fail.

Trolling of the highest order.
Lets feed it snot!!! :)

I think this threat about Afrikaans people is exaggerated. There have been millions of black unemployed people with no revolution. I don't understand why when Afrikaans people are unemployed, suddenly we have to worry about them revolting!

Well as I have said elsewhere -- I have NO water between 06h30 and 08h30 -- more or less ) -- and I live in a major city.

The other day a section of the municipal grid went down ( not unusual )

Local Mall has BIG generators -- but someone wired them up wrong -- when the municipal power came back on the whole mall went down ( dark )

Quite interesting actually -- I got to see an ATM boot up ( not a pretty sight ) can you believe the banks are too snoep to put SEPERATE UPS on the ATM's

Anyway I can now tell you what type of machine the ATM runs on -- the OS -- and even the IP address :erm::D

Which city are you in?

Sorry if it's listed on your profile, but I'm on my mobile and can't see it.

Who cares? If it’s boycotted, no-one comes. If tourists come, they get a true picture of the country and spread the word in their home countries that the SAn’s weren’t exaggerating – the place is a toilet. On balance, it may be better if they came and returned home as informal ambassadors. Spreading the word (through direct experience) that SA is failing.

I've yet to meet a tourist who had bad things to say about SA to their friends, and I have met many of them... But ofcourse, you are the expert, as well as the MyBB Current Affairs Brigade TM

You deserve a round of applause and an extra helping of cake for that amazing analysis. I mean WOW, why the hell is MENSA and and the Nobel Peace Prize people not at your door??
