I'm using the 3CX Phone System at home and I don't have $$$ for a VoIP Gateway.
So, I ramdomly came up with this crazy idea that perhaps I could use my old Nokia phone connected the PBX via IRda.

Is it possible to do such a thing?

Seems implausible, bluetooth would have a better chance, Ir also needs LOS, you'd look a right fool with your head at an angle to keep the LOS!

Quick google says there *could* be enough bandwidth on the IR stream.

simple terms; get the ATA ;)

why

I also use 3CX. Why would you use a voipgateway?
You can use soft sip phone from xten or a simpel adapter which is really not expensive from sipura or a different one.
The money you save with voiping u can put into a good voip IP phone and after that you are up to date and still calling cheap and saving money.

Going out on a limb here, and excuse me if you don't, but I believe dgcarter means the sipura adapter when he talks about the voip gateway.

The Sipura 3102 in my limited understanding is a gateway in terms (allows PSTN->VOIP and back), no?
