BREAKING: Zuma interdicts Public Protector Thuli Mandonsela

Lets assume Skimread's idea of a mole at the PP is true. She planned on releasing the report on state capture tomorrow at the press conference.

Why else the knee-jerk reaction from happylegs?

She always intended to release the prelim report tomorrow, was not a secret.

The leaked report could be discredited. Look at the whole spy tapes mess. The report needs to be handled with great ethical integrity and not cast it in any unfavorable light. A leaked report would stop our curiosity, but will not amount to anything.

The outcry would be hugely damaging to the ANC who would actually have to do something?

Even hard evidence has not been able to remove a sitting president. How is rumor and hearsay going to do it? I don't mean to sound critical. The injustice this nation has been forced to face is shameful.

I meant the content of the report. If happylegs has got a copy because he is No 1, then hes actually shot himself in the foot here. The narrative for the next couple of months in SA will be dominated by the report. Julius will have a field day in parliament.

And? This man has 700 and counting fraud and corruption charges pending against him. He has fought off a rape case as well. On top of avoiding (or digging in against) all that, his performance as a president is beyond dismal. How does anyone think that the Presidency cares how it looks?

from M&G

The presidency has confirmed to various news sources that the application for an interdict has been filed. The public protector’s office, meanwhile, has said that they cannot release the report until the decision on whether the interdict will be granted or the application dismissed is made.

According to public protector spokesperson Oupa Segwale, the application will be heard on Tuesday at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

“We have not yet decided how he are going to deal with it,” Segwale said. “We are still consulting our legal team.”

So she leaves pretty much on the same note that has become the hall mark of her 7 year long career as PP. Ineffective, late and depending on the public and opposition parties to stand up for her.

Are you saying it's coincidence that Zuma knew the exact day she would release the report.

Even though she would have said in public when she would have planned to release it, there is no way that Zuma knew the exact day or would have taken the risk of being a day late.

He probably got his National Intelligence Agency/State security to control and monitor all computers at the Public Protector. Probably paid millions for fancy Israeli software to do so

Clearly, you have the opinion that the Public Protector's Office has not delivered?

I am sure there are many of us on the forum that will disagree with you .

The people who named her one of the top 5 global leaders would beg to differ with your opinion of her, as I think would most level headed South Africans...

I just had a thought.

If she released the report then she would have to leave South Africa. All ANC structures would be baying for her blood and she wouldn't be safe in this country.
If she doesn't release the interim report then she intentionally threw away her hard work and public lose face in her and she loses international credibility.
Alternative is to plan to release it on the last day when she knew anything could happen. She could be asked to hand in her computer in the morning, she could be blocked from entering her office or Zuma would interdict her from releasing it. Leaving it to the 12 hour she doesn't lose face, still has international credibility and she can still live in South Africa or visit the country from overseas without have the threat of violence over her.

She pulled a similar thing before by not outright condemning Zuma in a previous report by taking the safe way out and making weak recommendations.

Who would plan to publish a report on your last day of office? Last day at any job normally is to pack up all your stuff and hand in everything. Not for working and sending complicated reports. I have a feeling she knew this would happen.

Can you blame me. Zuma has gotten off scott free. All the hard work of the investigation is gone. Her replacement is going to bury that report

I think the happenings of this week with the legal cases against Pravin, Malema and Thuli etc will turn anyone into a conspiracy theorist

The application for the interdict is not the same as an interdict.

"There is no interdict, just notice of intention to apply for one," Segalwe said.

"Zuma saw the dark clouds gathering from March when he received questions. What is so urgent now?” asked Malema.

The EFF leader said he didn’t believe a court would grant permission to anyone seeking to stop the report from being released.

It's probably going to be all over the news tomorrow :D
