British Ancestral passport

I'm going to try get mine!

I've started the process twice and I always got irratated by all the information etc they want / demand but this time, I'm going to make a mission and get it.
 
I've heard of a UK Ancestry visa but not this.
 
... doesn't help whenever I ask my mom anything, she almost refuses to give me the information :mad:

It's like she doesn't want me to get this damn thing! ARG! :mad:
 
you need all your mom's details to facilitate getting yours bru ..........
 
If you get it right let me know I want to apply for one for my daughter and sounds like she in the same boat as you.
 
My old girl is British, and when we were still kiddos she tried applying for one for each of us, we didn't qualify, so unless they've changed the qualifying criteria I'd check first. If your mom is a pom then I'd assume her folks are too? I think an ancestoral visa would be more successful. After living here for a specified number of years you'd qualify for a passport.

I'd check whether you qualify before applying it will save a lot of hassle.

If you were born pre-1983 your father had to be British born - post 1983 it could be either parent. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_nationality_law#British_Citizenship_by_descent

However things changed again in 2003 (acc to wiki) and
With effect from 30 April 2003, a person born outside the UK to a British mother may be entitled to register as a British citizen by descent if that person was born between 8 February 1961 and 31 December 1982.

But like they say it might be better to get nationality by naturalisation as you can pass that down.

Aaah that would make sense all 3 of us were born pre 1983... We got my dads Dutch passport anyway, same thing just in Dutch :D
 
They changed the law and now anyone with a British parent can apply for a passport ...... it's like 7-9k though in total.
 
I got mine through my father - I think you have to apply before you turn 21 though. I was born in 1980.

It still depends on how the parent became "British".

We're still trying to figure out how I got mine (whether by descent or otherwise than by descent) as my mother lost the papers. One way (otherwise than by descent - iow I was naturalised) I can pass it along to my kids the other I can't. They've got US citizenship already anyway so its not a big rush.
