British Ancestral passport

I had my ancestral visa processed within 2 days. With the ancestral visa you have to live there for five years and then apply for citizenship, which was my intention. Came back to SA within 3 weeks and settled down again. :-)

If I hold my British passport as a result of my dad being a Brit does that then mean that I can pass on my British passport to my kids?

I am registered as a full British Citizen and full South African Citizen, what would the law have to say?

If it matters my mom also holds a British passport as a result of marrying my dad.

Were you born in SA? If so then no.

I think if they moved to the UK with you as minors they could eventually be naturalised but not automatically. Otherwise their kids could do the same and so on. Its only the Irish that allow that AFAIK.

I dont think your wife wouldnt be entitled to more than a visa to start off with. After 5 years she would be eligible to become a naturalised citizen. She could then pass that along to her children.

I think its 3 years for a spouse but the same principle applies.
 
Would the below apply to my situation. I am born outside of the UK (SA) but I hold a British passport due to my father who is from London.

If I were to have kids would they be able to claim a British passport from me ?

Does the below still apply to ZA?

People born in British overseas territories who are citizens of the territory are eligible for a passport. If a child was born outside these territories but his parents are British overseas territories citizens by descent and have lived in that territory for three consecutive years without leaving the territory for more than 270 days, he is eligible for British overseas territories citizenship.

I dont think SA is classified as a British overseas territories.
Was your father born in the UK?

Then I think your kids are out of luck - unless one parent was born in the UK (or became a naturalised citizen) then they're not automatically eligible.

Hmmm , guess I need to make sure they are born there just for the passport :P

The only requirement for a UK passport is that you are a British Citizen. ;)
