I support China's execution of drug smugglers, and the smugglers are well aware of the risk when they chose to operate in these countries that have the death penalty for this type of crime.
In this case the family of the smuggler claim that he had mental health issues, but isn't this the defence in most cases like this?
Of course the ultimate would be to take out the drug lords, but that's easier said than done.

Briton executed in China

Urumqi - China on Tuesday executed a British man convicted of drug smuggling in its first execution of a European citizen in half a century, drawing a strong condemnation from Britain's prime minister.

Britain's Foreign Office confirmed the execution of Akmal Shaikh, whose relatives say was mentally unstable and was unwittingly lured into the crime.

"I condemn the execution of Akmal Shaikh in the strongest terms, and am appalled and disappointed that our persistent requests for clemency have not been granted. I am particularly concerned that no mental health assessment was undertaken," British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said in a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

He smuggled drugs into China and was caught... if they have the death penalty then so be it.... and claiming the guy was mentally unstable... well my response to that would be to question why the hell they let the guy go overseas on his own?

Death penalty is ok, as long as it not one's family member.

The Oke went to china with drugs on him and got caught. Yes it's a tragidy for his family but the Oke should have thought of that before doing what he did. Also, what of all the families that might have been affected by those drugs being on the streets. China have the right idea for once.

Drug dealers should be executed.
Addicts should be given free drugs - one lethal dose.

Lets play.

lets say that you personally took drugs into china and got caught. Now you were found guilty and were offere two choices, bullet in the head or treatment to rehabit your behaviour. And the treatment work, you became a worthwhile member of society.

Doing the latter would be hard work, and it's so much easier just to dig a hole and kill the crim.

Which would you choose, for youself as the crim, for your family as the criminal for Joe Public as the criminal? Honestly, are these answers all the same or not ?

bloody good + 1 for the Chinese, if you are caught being associated with drugs then its bye bye, sorry tjom jammer om van sy k@k te hoor!

1) eliminate more evil => less innocent people suffer
2) "either Criminals die or innocent people die" situation, I prefer "criminals" to die.
3) if criminals know the "consequences" to commit crime, they may give up to commit brutal crimes.
4) show mercy to criminals, it is brutal to innocent citizens only!

China has extensive law pertaining to drug abuse and smuggling, I've just read this document published by the Chinese embassy relating to drugs and cannot find fault with their attitude and laws.

I suppose at least its a quick and painless death.

The Chinese execute their own at the drop of a hat. Hell they even execute business men for corruption. Imagine how less regard they have for foreigners!
