Hi All,

So i have moved into a new place and require internet access for work as i often have to remotely log in to sites after hours...

I dont have a Telkom line in my place so am probably leaning more towards the 3G side of things...

My boss is willing to fund this as it will be used 80% for work purposes anyway. What deals should i look at? How is that R149 8ta 3G (2Gig + 1gig) deal? Is this my best option?

I would really appreciate some advice on this... Thanks in advance!

This is a promo once-off bundle ending this months. If you need for a longer period, probably other GoBig, 10GB contract. If this is too fat, consider CellC 3GB bundle R399, it expire after one year.

Who is the "Go Big" deal with? Do you have any idea of price?

If i had to guess i would say that R300pm is my limit... So if anyone can give me the current 3G deals that fall within that bracket, it would be helpful! Doesn't MTN have some special on 3G at the moment, or am i dreaming things up again?

Read the T&C's very carefully.

Dependent on coverage.
Only uses 8ta's own network.
24 month contract.

The coverage:
I have looked on their website and i am literally 1km out of the coloured area for 3G, but also live right next to the beach (well almost) so am thinking that they dont plot the scale down to the last meter. Does this mean that i wont get 3G signal? I stay in a pretty busy suburb and my Vodacom and MTN phones both get 3G signal at my house. How accurate are those maps?

24 Month Contract:
Are you sure this is a contract? The 2gig + 1gig promotion is a pay as you go offer and very similar. The other reason i find it hard to believe is because it's a promotion with an end date... So surely i cant get a 2yr contract when the promotion could end in 6months time?

For such limit there is also MTN Unlimited Lite contract R289x24 with E367 modem, I think you can get it on Topup package to avoid OOB charges.
In any case buy prepaid SIM R1 and test your coverage. For 8ta make it non-roaming first, but don't load airtime, then test 8ta coverage using www.8ta.co.za (free site).

Well i've got a Nokia Symbian phone with 3G on MTN and i can get 3G signal from my place, so i'm sure i would be able to get it with the MTN 3G Deal that you spoke about. Definitely one to look at!

As for 8ta... Here is the coverage map. For obvious reasons i have removed street names as not to completely give away my address :P, but have indicated the area that i live in with a red star... Looking at that map do you reckon i will get 3G signal? It's so damn close :(

get the 8ta 10GB thing.

ADSL is an option, but installing the line and getting everything will cost over R1000 if you plan to get a 4MB adsl line
