# Putting pressure on Telkom to bring down ADSL access (aka ADSL line rental) prices. The combination of ADSL access costs and analogue line rental for a DSL384 connection now exceeds the cost of an uncapped ADSL account.
The most important ones are the forced analogue line rental, and the price of the actual ADSL line!
Hmm, let's talk again in 6 months time or at the end of the year. Still massive shake up in the market to come this year.
For now... just ride the wave!![]()
Encourage open peering between all the ISPs, including large telecoms players like MTN, Vodacom, Telkom and Internet Solutions. Open peering can significantly improve the total cost of bandwidth provisioning and hence wholesale ADSL provisioning to ISPs, and peering should therefore be encouraged or even forced.
Nope, the most important one is LLU. Once other ISPs have access to the local loop, then they will drop analogue line rental, and probably reduce or drop ADSL line rental completely. We will then only pay for uncapped packages, or data-only packages - a simple, single price, an all-in-one service.
Telkom will then be forced to compete, by either matching or beating the ISPs on price and service. This will in turn force them into to dropping its voice line rental and reducing/dropping ADSL line rental.
Competition is what is needed. That will be the true catalyst. LLU is the way to bring about competition.
