Bought an ipad air2 64GB sim and wifi on gumtree and didnt check it much, got home wifi is not turning on but everything else is turning on like bluetooth and the rest. And to add on top of that I cant find the sim settings and the sim is not showing on the desktop yet it has a sim slot. cant find the person who sold it to me. Anyone has an idea of how ti sort this

Hi Bud,
That iPad was iCloud locked and they bypassed it by turning it to a wifi only ipad which is done through a hardware tweak. It works on the other iPads but on the ipad air 2 once restored the Wifi button is greyed out.Only way around this is to manually install the Wifi drivers, but then again the ipad has to be jailbroken for you to access the root file system.
If its running 10.2.1 you can do the jailbreak but if not then you are screwed.

Thanks man, I had no idea. I think its running on 10.2.1 so hopefully will get to work, just dont know where to go for a jailbreak though

There's no jailbreak for 10.2.1

Sounds more like a faulty wifi module to me?

EDIT: What state was the iPad in when you got it? IE had it been restored to new? Was it prompting you to start setup? IE select language, select network, enter apple id etc etc?

Is there a sim card installed in the unit? Does it say no sim installed? When you go to settings>cellular data> and enter on cellular data do you see greyed out options?

The hardware fix that removes the border id resistor would render both wifi and bluetooth inactive. According to OP bluetooth is working? That would also suggest that the wifi module is working and the border id resistor hasn't been removed?...

The bluetooth will still work after this mod..i have done it before and i have an ipad air 2 right now with the same issue. The bluetooth is how you manage to activate the ipad via tethering.
The wifi module will be working but its missing the firmware drivers

Surely one can just do a dfu mode restore? Use iTunes and the corresponding IPSW file and shift restore?

The ipad is picked up as a wifi only and the firmware installs fine but you still won’t have Wifi working as those drivers can only be installed manually after the bypass.
Trust me OP can do whatever with this ipad but the Wifi still won’t work. The fact that he cannot see the 3G option on his ipad says it all.Top left corner should say no sim if its still 4G/Wifi ,if it only says iPad then they have done the bypass.

This is the guy that came up with the baypass method.

The ipad was in good condition, i actually thought its a wifi only ipad till i saw the sim card slot but it doesnt show any sim options in the settings menu only bluetooth and wifi

Yes, the top left coner only says ipad thats why i was first confused about the simslot

Can i still use the ipad using bluetooth tethering cause when i got it it wasnt locked infact i had to put my own password and fingerprint security. Don't know when it has to go online what will happen

You can still use it with bluetooth tethering with no issues and yes you can even use your own iCloud information as its basically a “new” ipad.
