While valid, it is mathematically impossible to pay more tax under the new brackets than last year for the same salary. This is before taking into consideration increased deductions, such as medical aid credit

Yeah, didn't take that into account. I'll stop by HR in the morning to help me figure this out. I'm hoping it's less.

It seems it will be between R200pm and R500pm depending on where you fall on the tax scales.

It's unrelated to the tax scales since it's not a rebate but a direct tax credit, ie you calculate your tax and then you deduct R319pm each for the first 2 people, thereafter R215pm/
 
R230 billion allocated to Eskom over the next 10 years. That doesn't seem like a lot at all.

This year, R60 billion allocated to SAA and Eskom of which R16.4 billion of that will go to settling SAA debts.

How about bringing in people who can run a company.

They interviewed Pravin after the budget. SAA money will go towards settling debt which is 9 mil. the other money will go towards business rescue cost, restructuring cost and paying out employees who are getting retrenched as per labour law regulations.
 
I wonder how many of the war vets are still around to receive their increased grants. WW2 vets would be 90+ and the 800+ Korean vets would be 80+ by now.

Is that a typo? Do you mean billion?

I had a read of the budget again, yeah it says 16.4 to settle debts and interest. Which I missed the first time and must be what you mentioned?

It means a piece of paper is not going to fool SARS. You have to actually emigrate. Leave the country with no intention to return and actually comply with the physical presence test.
