Build me a PC

well transend is not expensive any more

my advise amd 64 3200+
2 gig of transend ram
1 x 200 gig sata hdd
medium mb
i would wait for vga card until the new nvidia comes because the 6800 ultra price will drop alot
19 inch crt monitor

erm, the new nvidia has been out for quite some time now... if i'm not mistaken...

just grab a rectron pricelist

o yeah its out your right wow its expensive as well

why do you need cpu cooling for amd?

my cpu under load run at around 34 i mean how much lower should it go
what is the advantage of your cpu running at 22 as opposed to 34 (nothing)

not much performance advantage i am sure, BUT i think it increases the lifetime of your hardware, and in todays disposable age we would our things to last as long as possible.

that said, i have been running an athlon xp 2000+ on stock fan for almost 3 years now. i dont see it blowing up soon. so the amount of lifetime increase you can expect is also debatable. i would rather get a genourmously expensive stable power supply to decrease the chances of surges and fluctuations.

The Intel P4 3GHz in my old machine did 60 to 65 degrees C every time I started a game. So, I am talking about heat issues from experience.

yeah, but thats intel. AMD doesnt have that much heat loss. check on tomshardware for a very detailed look at power consumption. It literally costs less to run your AMD system than to run an Intel system.

yup with the 64 bit cpu's you dont need another fan with intel you do because intel is so far behind amd

the only reason they stay in front is the same reason mecer does

its a known product, doesnt mean its better
mecer and hp desktops are heavy expensive paper weights

for real quality look no further than rectron

In that case I'm gonna overclock my P4 3.0ghz prescott to about 3.4, cause the hottest temperature I have recorded was 49 degrees. (With stock HSF)

Hmm, your right MansoN, doing a bit of window shopping on sybaritic (yeah, you can get cheaper, I know), I'm at R9500 and I still need to get a case, decent CPU/Case cooling, mouse & keyboard. I chucked out the idea of an Audigy sound card and opted for a top notch motherboard instead.

The RAM threw me for a wobbly, is it just Sybaritic that is so damn expensive, jeez !
R1500 for 512mb ! - ouch
And 512mb is just not enough RAM, that's for sure - minimum 1gig !

AAMD Athlon 64 2800+ Processor - Socket 754, 512k L2 - Boxed R1,064.00

Gigabyte GV-NX66T128D GeForce 6600GT 16xPCIE 128-bit 128MB DDRIII w/TV + DVI R1,875.00

Asus K8V SE Deluxe Via K8T800 Motherboard w/A6 + FW + LK + IDE RAID + SATA RAID R1,511.40

Altec Lansing 251 Versatilve 5.1 Speaker System + AAD200 Dolby Decoder R1,248.00

Seagate 160GB Barracuda SATA150 8MB 7200RPM Hard Drive w/NCQ - Retail R955.00

Kingston DDR533 512MB (2x256MB) HyperX Memory Module Kit R1,463.00

AOpen 19" A90E Monitor - Silver/Black R1,123.00

Codegen Dual Rail 400W Power Supply R308.00

Whatever you do don't get 754, the only thing the mobo's will support are the standar and 64Bit Sempron and the A64 754.

Always go 939 as the X2 procs will be supported by all 939 mobo's with a simple bios update.

my 3200+ never runs hotter than 45c. Standard fan/heatsink are 100%.

That's hot, I'd check the airflow in your case if I were you. I have the 939-3200 oc'd to 2.2ghz and it never gets hotter than 38 degrees under permanent 100% load. I run setiboinc day in and day out.

Yeah, my P4 3.06GHz HT CPU runs at a contant 60 - 61 degreees under maximum load.

My Athlon 2800+ runs at about 52 degrees under maximum load.

I think ~60 degrees might be too much? It'srunning on stock fan. The Athlon is running an upgraded Thermaltake Volcano heat sink and fan.

man, my laptop p4 3.06ht never even goes above 50degrees!! even under load, and its crammed in their with a fan and all that jazz, tightly packed, guess it does a good job!

They work at lower voltages also they speed step depending on temp/battery/mains power.

Ok, after going through all the advice everyone here was so kind to give, this is the system that I have gotten quotes on. If possible I'd like some commentary before I actually go and purchase.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
AMD Athlon 64 PCI Express 939 socket
1 GB Ram (2x 512 DDR 400)
80GB SATA HDD
160GB SATA HDD
128MB 128-bit GeForce 6600GT PCI Express
Thermaltake Shark 2 case + 480 Watt PSU
17" CRT Monitor
Other Gadgets(CDRW, DVDRW, Speakers etc.)

Comes out to just over R10k on most quotes so just about spot on. Commentary?

What brand and model is the motherboard, ram, graphics card???
Seems a little expensive too me.
good processor

Depends on which quote I look at :P most of the suppliers stick to Gigagyte, Corsair or Asus though.

yeah stick with mentioned brands.
stay away from chaintech etc

another thing make sure that you get a decent dvd writer, its worth the extra cash. I was mad enough to buy a el cheapo SAHARA, endless troube! it takes about a hour to burn single layer dvd

EDIT: 1 hour later and it packed up
