Build me a PC

@Arzy: I can't find anything wrong with your setup. Just stick with the known brands and you should be fine. I'm going with ASUS personally but Gigabyte has got a very good warranty in case things go pear-shaped.

@rburley: lol, I was wondering about those Sahara writers. You must try BenQ. They're cheaper than other makes but with very decent quality. I had a problem with CRC errors but it turns out my brand of choice in the DVD market was way off, i.e. don't buy Princo....... never buy Princo...... buy Verbatim........ only Verbatim.

I'm not a fan of ASUS. I've had some bad experiences with. Just my opinion though.
I'd go for Gigabyte anyday.

on a side thought, seeing as you guys are gamers - if you had 18-20 grand max to spend, what sort of laptop would you get, that would handle most current games?
(I assume if games can be handled, then just about everything else can, as well..)

(my needed basics - at least 100gig HD, 1gig ram, 15" screen (or smaller even - would rather plugin to an external flatscreen, than have a huge laptop just coz of the screensize) dvd/cd writer combo, some reasonable battery life, and an ability to crunch numbers+vid conversion+ripping+gaming..)

now what individual components specs would you guys select, if you had 18-20k to blow on a laptop, to have a portable pc that kicked reasonable *ss.
Or is that figure not enough?

On laptops, my wife has this one:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Notebook/Products/Products_W511A.htm
It scores 2200 in 3DMark05, which means it can run any game out today and probably for the next while. I see it online for about R12500 here in SA or can be sourced from Rectron.

For about R19K, you can get a Dell Inspiron 9300 with a GeForce 6800 Go. That gives about 3200 in 3DMark05. However, you say you do not want the big screen. This laptop is too big to carry around every day, but personally I like the big screen.
