ICASA has jurisdiction over picking their own noses and sniffing their armpits.... that's about it. About as useful as a speedometer on a monkey wrench.

the Bill also proposes imposing criminal sanctions on directors and managers. Those include proposed fines of up to R500 000 and/or a prison sentence of up to 10 years for directors and managers responsible for, or who knowingly participate in, fixing prices and trading conditions, as well as market division and collusive tendering.

Awesome!!!!11!!

ROFL :D

On a side note, is this move "imminent" or is it actually likely to happen?

Okay,

Telkom (example) can decrease line rentals, monthly ISP charges etc...

But what about bandwidth? Is it really Telkom or IS's fault? Are they greedy?

"one of the best regulatory bodies. They do a very competent job and are very experienced..."

 For a moment there I thought Knott-Craig was referring to ICASA! Wow, read on before scaring yourself like that!

IS's international bandwidth still comes from Telkom, as does SAIX... so the blame ultimately lies with one company.

Okay, will this force them to cut bandwidth prices?

Did Tiger Brands cut bread prices?

Prices only go up, not down, no matter if production costs get halved.
They simply pocket the extra money.

Wish the tribunal could impose a price reduction penalty that would be valid for a couple of years with a maximum percentage point increase in price per year for an offender....

Thats due to global financial problems that are happening at the moment, **** flows down...

At least this is a positive step in the right direction, lets not always be negative about everything.

I disagree... Tiger Brands paid that fine with a smile, they simply increased the bread price and recovered the fine. So they didn't even feel the punishment. The price is high because they are a cartel, a monopoly. They have been and still are, on a crusade to buy out all the smaller food companies. They are even more cunning and crafty than Telkom.

icasa is like old toothless old dog and should be put down
