I think its the parking infrastructure. its right next to the station house. don't think they can expand it easily. and its supposed to be like an elite thing. at least that's how they pitched it at the beginning.

It's more a case of a limited number of seats because everyone has to have a seat and there are only eight carriages. This, in turn, affects everything else.

Even so, if there's demand, then make it happen.

Unless it's being run at a loss and it costs the council or whoever money if more people signup.

There's likely a whole lot of other factors in play. An obvious example: you can't stick extra carriages on a passenger train if it will make said train longer than the platforms it stops at...

Actually you can.

If the platform at some stations can only handle a few carriages, you make sure that your passengers who will be using that particular station sit in the correct carriages, and you line those up with that platform. Worst case scenario is that some people have to move along a carriage or two to get on or off.

The passengers in this case are long term regulars and not casual passengers, so will easily manage to be on the right carriage if it's explained to them when they sign up.

Hi guys. Is anyone still using this train (Metrorail Business / Premium Express from Somerset West to Cape Town? Is there still a waiting list, and does the train run on time? I am considering a job offer in Cape Town CBD which would would mean a daily commute from Somerset West.

Train is mostly on time still, wife is still part of whatsapp group.

Don't think there is much of waiting list anymore.

3yrs later..

Is this still a thing, or is it broken?

I'm going to have to travel between CT and Somerset West a few times.

Initially I enjoyed the drive, but the novelty has worn off.

Oh to add complexity to my African travel - I presume uber is functional out there in darkest Africa.
The next leg of my journey would be from the station to Mediclinic.
