Busy (Telkom, i think) Bees

I live in Cape Town, Northern Suburbs. The past we few weeks Ive seen Telkom and their "maaitjies" laying cable all along Durban road. From Tygervalley all the way up to the Durbanville exchange. Whats more, they only did this within a few weeks...normally these things take months. They even crossed a tar road. Within 2days the road was fixed and it was as they were never there. They even worked on SUNDAYS. The point I'm getting to is :

1. Whats the rush?
2. Was these fibre cables just for Telkom?
(The colour of the cables was orange,green and blue)

If there are multiple colours, it's almost certainly multiple operators, since the CT City Council is insisting on roads only being dug up once. The orange is probably Neotel, but the green and blue could be Vodacom or Telkom. No yellow? Telkom typically doesn't work this fast on their own.

BTW You are probably looking at the ducts, not the cables. Were they a few centimetres in diameter?

We here in the north of Bloem have also seen a major cable laying wave here in the last month. But it has taken a fair bit longer than a few days to lay them. More like 2 weeks but I think this was vodacom laying the cables as I saw a piece of vodacom broadband tape on the ground. There were a whole lot of cables though, so Im not exactly sure

Jup, definitely no yellow. Yes they where a few centimeters in diameter.

The cables where on those huge rolls. The rolls where laying there for days before they started to dig up.

Also, there was orange pipes all over the place as well. Its definitely from one exchange to another. I'm just hoping its something to do with NGN and that we don't have to wait till march 2010 for an announcement

Seen this as well - all long Fairtrees as well and by Durbanville sports club. Might just tap in to the fibre line
