** UPDATE 20/07/2022 ***
Been contacted by Telkom to arrange a collection of the duplicate items.
Contract to be voided once collection and state of goods are confirmed.
After multiple calls, emails and a visit to a Telkom shop it seems we have a success!
(Fingers crossed the billing will be fine...)
*******

Thanks to Eskom's loadshedding and my small town municipality's electrical issues, my PC finally lost it's will to live.
Due to limited income, I needed a PC to work on but needed to pay installments (affordable ones) instead of a lumpsum.

Enter Telkom.
I saw an ad on the MyBroadband page for a contract deal with Telkom for a MSI GF63 Notebook and 20+20Gb Data for R499pm. Perfect!
The PC's specs beats my old workhorse by a bit and the monthly installment is by no means unreasonable.

I applied online, got a call back 2 days later and was approved!

Received everything a couple of days later on the 6th of June 2022. Super happy - the PC works a treat and so too the mobile router and data. Now I can work without the fear of loadshedding interfering.

Flashforward a few weeks - I receive an SMS from the couriers that my package will be delivered on the 30th of June 2022. The SMS mentioned a modem only thus I didn't bother following up. [In my defense I have heard of people receiving 'extra' modems or phones due to technical issues so didn't think about it].
I received the package and to my surprise and amusementy received the complete order again...

Leaving the box unopened and thus the contents untouched (and inactive), I contacted Telkom via their "hotline", chat function and send messages to get someone to call me back.
2 Days ago I received the invoice listing both contracts ie. 2x R499 instead of the 1x R499.
I placed a request to cancel the 'surprise second' contract (which was within 7 days) stating my case. A gentleman by the name of Arnold replied stating the standard blurb and the cancellation fees for the whole contract - just under R15k.
I have responded stating my case once again and pointed out that the 'additional' contract is Telkom's fault and totally unsolicited.

I am still awaiting a response form Mr Arnold - and the Telkom Rep on this forum.

I have had contracts with Telkom in the past, all of which were handled very well. It seems however that the service you get online pales in comparison to that you receive at their stores.

Be warned - go to their stores, avoid their online mess.

Why not just sell the laptop and pay the cancellation costs?
From what I saw of the deal, it was a couple Rands cheaper than buying the laptop itself directly?

Actually considering this - but as Plan B.

The whole set of "it's a principle thing" genes kicked in.
If I can get them to take it back it would be shweet.

A similar thing happened to me. I placed an order online for the uncapped 10mbps package at R449 a month. When my sim was delivered, I was surprised to find 2 sims. Apparently, they also signed me up for a 5GB + 5GB package at R59 a month. Luckily they were bought month-to-month so I canceled the one. Lost the R99 for the activation fee and R59 for the first month.

Does anyone know if the agents get a commission from each sale? Maybe this explains the whole situation.

As a rule of thumb Telkom is one of those networks you don't ever deal with online when signing up. I honestly think these 'mistakes' aren't always that.

Yeah, think so too.

Did a cellphone contract online about 3 years ago and all went well, so against my better judgement (and haste) went that route again.

Still no reply from Telkom's agent, so I'm going to spam his mailbox (via a method I perfected over the years) for a response.

*** UPDATE ***

I got a reply from 'Mr Arnold' from Telkom this morning (after spamming him).
In the mail he requests that I visit a Telkom store asap. to fix "this error" (as per his email).

So at least they admit the error, but need me to go and fix it... oh well, at least the Telkom store in Potchefstroom is on my way to the dentist...

Let us know how it goes. Hopefully they can sort you out.

Update!

While still waiting for a confirmation of pick up from the courier, I have managed to get the ball rolling with Telkom.
The email address [email protected] does not work however [email protected] does. Received a confirmation from them on my "query" this morning.
At this stage I do have a Reference Number, Order Number, Job Number, Waybill Number (for the delivery not the collection, yet) and a Cell Number for the whole story. Also having a guy at Head Office admit they have made a mistake helps heaps.

So the saga continues, the first month's debit order went off (bounced, and I paid the correct amount for 1 contract, not 2) and we are waiting for that much hoped for sms from CourierIT to collect the parcel.

Here's hoping for the best!

*** Update *** 08/08/2022

Courier collected the duplicate contract items on the 29th July and I received a call from Telkom on 2 August confirming all items have been received and the duplicate contract have been removed from my account.

The last task is to get them to fix the invoices to reflect the correct amounts (the first debit order bounced, I paid via EFT for 1 contract, however the second debit order is coming up on the 25th...).

Hoping this is my last update.
