mhhhh Ryan nice to know we have folks with no resentment, at least christianity did its job hehe. At the moment black people have an inherent distrust of white people and i suppose for progress sake there is wish for the distrust can go away quicker. Take Tony Leon's case, before 94 I don't recall the DP fighting for the cause of black people so it's kind of hard to think a chihuahuha like Leon all of a sudden has a black person's and white person's interest at heart.
I'm not a history buff, but politicians being politicians tend to do whatever will get them the most votes. The majority are black in this country, so if a party wants to get the black vote, they better look after black voters too.
As far as voting is concerned, if we cant begin to look past a person's skin colour, we are screwed!
Even a politician's past actions are no indication of what is in their mind then or now. Look at all the fallen ANC struggle heroes. Look at how the ANC squanders public money. I don't believe they have the public interest at heart
How welcoming is China to foreigners Ryan, the perception I get is that they are quite a xenophobic society?
This would depend on where in China u go to. Even amongst Chinese, I think someone from the south would not be as welcome as someone from the North. A city like Shanghai is more cosmopolitan than the rest, AFAIK. If u can speak the lingo, u r gonna be much better off. If not, u r gonna struggle. In any event, anyone not far-east Asian is gonna get stares, but again, this depends where u go. I speak under correction here, so u might be better off asking someone who was actually born in China and has travelled around the country with exposure to foreigners...
The "disadvantaged" are the ones suffering because they, their parents, grand parents and so on suffered or are suffering because of a systematic process of social exclusion to the country’s opportunities which lead them to being ‘poor’.
Statistically a black person in South Africa was and is born into poverty. Statistically, someone born into poverty is likely to die there and have children who live powerless as well. Thankfully, there is hope for the vast majority of those people and/or their children.
There are white people who are presently "disadvantaged" because, they were born into poverty within their families or they consider themselves excluded to the country’s opportunities. Statistically, they are a minority.
We should not forget about minorities and discard them like yesterdays newspaper. Surely we are better than that (now) than to not give a hoot about people just because they are the wrong colour and a statistical minority?
Here's a
post I made to an old thread w.r.t. group areas...
On the engineering front, it sounds like the country is in trouble.
Edit: here's the full thread: Call to scrap affirmative action
