Buying a refurbished laptop

Hi guys, I'm not much of a tech guru so I wanted to hear your guys opinions on purchasing refurbished or demo stock.
I'm looking at getting a new laptop (for general home use, browsing, doing some projects) and I was wondering if its worthwhile buying a higher-end refurbished model from a company like WebDirect, or should I stick to buying a brand new lower-end model? My budget is around R5500 hence me looking at refurbs
 
We've bought several Dell models from Universe Direct ... and they worked for many years afterwards.

Buy lower end but new. Make sure memory and cpu are upgradeable in case you want to increase the performance in the future. At least this way, it's new and you have a longer warranty. I bought a Dell I'm 2004 which was on the lower end off the spectrum, I just maxed out the memory and cpu about a year ago it increased the performance quite a bit. It runs win 7 flawlessly now which is pretty good for a 2004 laptop.

Problem is that the latest trend is to use soldered CPU and memory - not upgradable.

From a reputable refurbisher I'd recommend, I bought one on bidorbuy that was refurbed for R4750 (i7, 256gb SSD, 8gig Ram HP, Windows 7) but found out afterwards the Windows is cracked and sometimes it doesn't detect the hdd.. luckily only using for browsing and series. If you gonna do work on it, get a proper one I'd say
 
You can get a new i3 for that price. Demo and refurbished can be high risk.

I bought a Dell about two weeks ago. It died after opening it to check if the RAM was low voltage (I did ground myself). Also has cosmetic scratches all over) but overall am happy.
