That's just a list of printers they actually tested and know are working, in theory almost any printer will work because in Windows you're going to manually add it as a TCP/IP device.

I don't think it's much of a risk. You need a new router and many come with usb ports. The base routing functionality will be served, and if the current printer you have works, then win, if it doesn't you still have your current use of the printer and have an extra NAS in the usb port instead.
Since you perceive the need for 2 usb ports, I'd get a router with two usb ports.
